From Fernwood Tonight to National Lampoon’s Radio Hour to SNL’s Weekend Update, Bob Elliott and his partner Ray Goulding set a standard that so many comics have tried their hardest to live up to. With partner Ray Goulding, they were masters of both improv comedy and parodying the media they appeared on, while satirizing everything with signature low-key, deadpan humor.

Comedians Lock Down 4 of Top 5 Spots in Most Beloved Television Personality Poll

This morning, The Harris Poll results were released, and Jimmy Fallon, Ellen DeGeneres, Steve Harvey and Steven Colbert made the list of the top five tv personalities in America. NCIS' Mark Harmon beat all of them for the top spot as America’s favorite TV personality, narrowly beating out reigning champion Ellen Degeneres. According to Poll results, Conservatives pick Harmon while Moderates and Liberals both lean toward DeGeneres. Harmon last held the title in 2011 and DeGeneres leaned up in the last three years, proving that America likes it’s TV the way they like their politics. Full of familiar faces.

Late night talk shows are a huge source of comedy. The hosts all have a background in comedy, the writers are all primarily comedy writers, there are comedy guests, stand up performances, comedy sketches, and of course the monologues. This was a huge year for late night, with legendary hosts leaving, new hosts coming on board, and all kinds of shake ups in lineups. With the tenor of late night programming shifting uncomfortably to bar games, it's important to celebrate the greatness, and there was plenty.
