Ready For the Maya Rudolph-Martin Short Variety Show!?
NBC Picks up Maya and Marty in Manhattan, hopes Lorne Michaels is missing ingredient to successful variety show.
NBC continues it’s quest for variety show magic after cancelling last years The Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris after just one season. This year the network is teaming up with sketch comedy veterans Maya Rudolph and Martin Short to bring Maya and Marty in Manhattan to life. NBC isn’t leaving much chance in their latest foray into the fine art of comedy variety. Sketch comedy sage Lorne Michaels has signed on as executive producer, the series will air live from the legendary 30 Rock studio and will feature two legendary sketch comedians in Short and Rudolph.
Featuring sketch comedy, celebrity guests and musical guests, Maya and Marty in Manhattan looks to be an extension of the 2014 one off variety special, The Maya Rudolph Show.
Rudolph has kept herself busy with appearances on Comedy!Bang!Bang! and Drunk History while Short has been resurfacing regularly the last few years, as a part of the cast of Mulaney, and with guest appearances on hits The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Hollywood Game Night.
Joining Michaels as exec producer is Matt Roberts, a “Late Show with David Letterman” alum, and Erin David. The show is set to premiere in May 2016.
