The Letterman Effect: 15 Comedians Talk About What Performing on Letterman Meant to Them

Nick DiPaolo on Letterman

“To say say that you did Letterman and being a comic in New York was a badge that you wore proudly.”

“What attracted me to him was that he was kind of cantankerous. You didn’t know what kind of mood he was going to be in. He wasn’t a real kiss ass as far as talk show hosts go. He could be abrupt and kind of grouchy one night which is what I liked about him, which is what a lot of people liked about him. You didn’t always know what you were getting, kind of the unpredictability is what I liked about his personality.   And I think it showed a lot of comics you could be kind of a prick here and still make it.”
