The Letterman Effect: 15 Comedians Talk About What Performing on Letterman Meant to Them

Paul Morrissey on Letterman

“Being on Letterman meant that I was a real comedian. The guys that I’ve looked up to, Mitch Hedberg, Jim Gaffigan I saw all those guys on Dave’s show and as a comedian I felt like that was the premier credit to get.

“If Dave Letterman thought you were funny, then you’re funny.” Growing up,was like the funny kid at school had his own tv show to us. You know, throwing stuff off a roof, jumping into a pool with an alka seltzer suit on, jumping into a wall of velcro, all the Andy Kaufman professional wresting stuff. It was like a kid in a candy store. If you had you’re own show that’s what you’d be doing.”
