Royal Families of Comedy

The Einsteins

If you don’t recognize the name Einstein in the world of comedy, that could be because you know these hilarious family members by their stage names – Albert Brooks, Super Dave Osbourne and the patriarch of the family “Parkyakarkus”. Harry Einstein went by different names throughout his career, but was best known as Parkyakarkus (Park Your Carcass) which was a character he created on Eddie Cantor’s radio show. Harry’s Greek character became so popular that he got his own spin off radio show, Parke’s Place. His son, Albert Brooks is the genius comedian, actor, author, writer and director who has made great comedies including Modern Romance, Lost in America and Defending Your Life. His comedy albums from the 1970s are considered classics and he was a regular guest on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. His older brother, Bob Einstein, got his start as a writer for the Smothers Brothers where he collaborated with Steve Martin and Rob Reiner. He also appeared on the show as Officer Judy. Bob created a brand new stuntman character for the Jon Byner Comedy Hour in the 70s, known as Super Dave Osbourne. He would go on to take the character on Late Night with David Letterman before getting his own series, Super Dave. Bob Einstein can now be seen on the Larry David series Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO as Marty Funkhouser.
