Royal Families of Comedy

The Simons

Danny Simon not only wrote for great comedy shows on television, but also wrote with and inspired several other amazing writers, including Woody Allen who said – everything he learned about comedy writing, he learned from Danny Simon. Other writers that Danny collaborated with included Mel Brooks, Larry Gelbart and Danny’s brother, playwright Neil Simon. The Simon brothers wrote for legends like Milton Berle, Phil Silvers and became part of Sid Caesar’s Your Show Of Shows writing team. Danny continued on in television writing for shows like Make Room For Daddy, Colgate Comedy Hour, The Facts of Life and Diff’rent Strokes. Neil Simon is a Pulitzer Prize winner writer who has written classic comedic plays and movies. Some of which were inspired by his brother Danny, including The Odd Couple and Laughter on the 23rd Floor. Nearly all of Neil’s plays have been made into motion picture comedies. His credits include The Good Bye Girl, Barefoot in the Park, and the autobiographical trilogy of Brighton Beach Memoirs, Biloxi Blues and Broadway Bound. No writer has received more Oscar and Tony nominations combined than Neil Simon.
