Comedians Who Wanted to Rock, and Got Their Big Chance

7. Ray Stevens, “Let It Be”

If there’s a picture in the dictionary for “musical comedian”, it’s probably Ray Stevens. Since the 60’s he’s been writing country-tinged parodies of everything from phone stalkers to Pentecostal snake-walkers. While he’s a little bit more focused on pro-Republican political satire these days, Ray is still kicking, and in his catalog of hits there are a number of both covers and original compositions that showcase his talent as a musician and singer. Last I heard, he was working on “Rayality TV”, a webseries offering highlights of his past music videos as well as original songs and comedy stories. Take it or leave it, Ray was, and still is talented. Give a listen to his take on the Beatles’ “Let It Be” alongside Cass Elliot
