Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?

This week, Kimmel’s got guest hosts, Tig gets animated, and Colbert gets to introduce a comedian to the country.

Jimmy Kimmel’s yearly sabbatical is well underway and now we get the fun of seeing which of his guest hosts, over the next month, can deliver the goods in late night. Who knows!? One of these people might be the new Conan or at least grabbing his time slot.

The other annual event from Jimmy Kimmel is the “Jimmy Kimmel Live NBA Finals Game Nights” pre-shows which also have a guest host this week. First, let’s get the “Game Nights” out of the way. “Jimmy Kimmel Live: NBA Finals Game Night” will be hosted by Anthony Anderson from “Black-ish.” And that will air this Wednesday at 8pm et on ABC before Game 4 of the NBA Finals. And the way the Milwaukee Bucks are playing, Game 4 is all we may need before the finals are over.

Here’s what Jimmy Kimmel Live looks like for the rest of the week. Arsenio Hall is guest hosting on Monday and Tuesday of this week. We know Arsenio has talk show experience. On Wednesday night, the fabulously funny Phoebe Robinson (HBO’s “2 Dope Queens“)is sitting in the Kimmel chair. Programming Note: Due to Game 4 of the NBA Finals, after the game and your local news, Jimmy Kimmel Live will be airing at midnight instead of its regularly scheduled time of 11:30pm et.

Thursday, Jimmy Kimmel Live is throwing us a wild card. All ABC is announcing about JKL on Thursday night is that it’s TBD. So, we don’t know if Phoebe will be back or if there will be a different guest host that night. Finally on Friday, Jimmy Kimmel’s guest host will be Nick Kroll from “Kroll Show” on Comedy Central and “Oh, Hello” on Broadway. Nicky’s guest will be his pal Seth Rogen. Someone may want to air out the studio after those two are done hanging out for the night. The studio audience is in store for a great show as well as a contact high.

So that’s enough about how Jimmy Kimmel’s month long vacation has made for a very confusing late night schedule this week.

Let’s hike back to Monday in our late night highlights to talk about the Tonight Show. Jimmy Fallon starts off this week with one of his favorite guests who has a very innovative comedy special coming out. Tig Notaro will be on the Monday edition of the Tonight Show to promote her new special where you’ll see Tig like you’ve never seen her before. And that’s saying something considering she once performed without a shirt after undergoing surgery for a double mastectomy.

Tig Notaro will be on Fallon on Monday night to discuss her upcoming special, “Tig Notaro: Drawn.” Her new hour will debut on HBO and HBO Max and the network is calling it, “the first fully animated stand-up special.” Tig will appear in different cartoon styles throughout the special. And so will her jokes which also get the cartoon treatment, so you can see them play out in animation form while Tig is telling them. “Tig Notaro: Drawn” debuts on the HBO and HBO Max platform on Saturday, July 24th.

Amy Poehler is dropping by Late Night with Seth Meyers on Tuesday to hang with her old SNL buddy. And of course, to promote the new season of her NBC series, “Making It.” The crafting reality show co-starring Nick Offerman (Amy’s co-star from “Parks & Recreation“), has started its third season and can be seen Thursdays at 8pm et on NBC.

We are very excited about the Late Show on Wednesday night this week. That’s because it’s always thrilling when you get to see an up-and-coming, new comic make their national late night television debut. It a rite of comedy passage in America. That comedian is Wally Baram and she will be premiering on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday.

Wally Baram is a stand up of Mexican-Syrian descent who is a regular in the L.A. clubs and her comedy is seen through a multi-cultural lens. In the days before Covid, when comedians traveled freely, Wally had opened for Jeff Garlin. We can’t wait to see what she brings to the Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night on CBS.

While most of our late night hosts are back from vacation this week, Saturday Night Live is still on hiatus for the rest of the summer. On the bright side, this coming weekend, SNL is running one of its funnier shows from this past season. Keegan-Michael Key of “Key & Peele” fame will be hosting this Saturday’s SNL rerun. His repeat musical guest will be Olivia Rodrigo.

Enjoy your week. And remember, July is National Cell Phone Courtesy Month. So, call your friends at dinner time and let them know about it.
