The New York Comedy Festival is always jam packed full of killer acts, and this year is no exception. Comedy juggernauts like Patton Oswalt, Hannibal Buress, Tracy Morgan, Bill Maher, T.J. Miller, Cameron Esposito, Marc Maron, Big Jay Oakerson, Dan Soder and Eric Andre, among many others, will all be taking to the stage in the multi-borough festival, which goes from November 1st to November 6th. Also headlining this year, comedy giant, Tig Notaro.
The comic last performed at the NYCF back in 2014, and that performance has remained, to this day, one of the most memorable sets of her career, and one of the most talked about performances at the festival. During her set, Notaro, who at the time had just recently undergone a double mastectomy, took her shirt off and bared her mastectomy scars for all to see. It was a powerful display of confidence and of Notaro’s ability to stare down the scary reality that she had been dealing with and make it answer to her. The set was incredibly well received and only helped to further bolster Notaro’s image. And now she’s planning to outdo herself this year.
In an exclusive interview with Bustle, Notaro announced that when she returns to the NYCF this year, she plans to do something big on stage; something that just may outdo her 2014 performance.
“I’m doing something on stage that I have never done before, live,” Notaro told Bustle’s Caroline Gerdes. “And, it’s just something I’m really excited about sharing with people. I think it’s going to be really fun.”
She went on to say that ”it’s safe to say I’ll be taking another risk. And, I’m just really excited to do the festival and include this as part of my performance.”
Notaro is keeping mum on the details, but she’s obviously got something big up her sleeve. What it could be is anybody’s guess.
