Earlier this week, the folks behind Vancouver’s JFL NorthWest comedy festival announced the dates and initial lineup for this year’s event. Now going into its third year, the budding festival has consistently pulled in some of the best names in comedy to bring A-level talent to the crowds in Vancouver. While this year’s lineup so far is killer, it’s a new addition to the festival that has people really excited.
“A new addition to the festival” doesn’t quite do it justice. The organizers of JFL NorthWest have announced that they will be launching a new comedy film festival this year to run concurrently with JFL. Called the Vancouver Just For Laughs Film Festival, the sister event will go on from Thursday, March 1st to Saturday, March 10, the same days as JFL NorthWest. The new fest promises to feature riveting industry speakers, lots of panels, premieres of various short and feature-length films, and much more.
The inaugural JFL Film Fest is already taking submissions from up-and-coming filmmakers in three categories: Comedy Short Shorts, World-Wide Shorts, and Feature This! For details on entering your film for consideration to be showcased at the event, check out JFL’s website.
Of course, let’s not let that exciting bit of news distract from the great initial lineup of comics that JFL NorthWest just announced. Some of those names include Bill Burr, Jim Norton, Maria Bamford, Nikki Glaser, Ari Shaffir, Jay Pharoah, Rachel Feinstein, Tom Papa, Brian Regan, Mike Birbiglia, Sasheer Zamata, Kyle Kinane and a host of other solo acts. In addition to the international talent the fest is bringing in, they’ve also enlisted a ton of local talent for their Best of the West series, including Barely Legal, All You Can Eat Laundry, Cords Comedy, Jokes Please!, The Lady Show, Little Mountain Improv, Phantom Signal and much more.
As per usual, the festival will take place at a slew of different venues across Vancouver, such as the Vogue and Queen Elizabeth Theatres, the Vancouver Playhouse, Biltmore Cabaret, Yuk Yuk’s and more. Tickets are on sale as of 10 a.m. on Friday, December 10. To buy tickets, or to get a full rundown of all the who’s, what’s and where’s, head over to the JFL NorthWest website.
