The Comedic Performances That The Academy Overlooked

Reese Witherspoon knows. So does Steve Carell. It's an open secret that being funny on film will not bring you Oscar gold. If it did, Steve would have been billed as Academy Award Nominee Steve Carell for the last 10 years. His performance in The 40 Year-Old Virgin was a revelation. The guy you saw on The Daily Show every so often suddenly turned in this nuanced performance that was both hilarious and sweet. The entire movie hinged on the believability of his character Andy, and Carell very subtly had us in the palm of his hand the entire time. If Andy was dyslexic or had a harelip instead of being a virgin, Carell would have been making the rounds on the awards circuit in 2005, the way he is this year for Foxcatcher.

John Oliver Makes a Suggestion For Who Should Takeover for Jon Stewart on The Daily Show

Congratulations to John Oliver who was bragging last night on the Tonight Show that he's not fired. Instead he has two more years with HBO, it was announced yesterday. Good move on HBO's part now that a seat has opened up at The Daily Show.

Larry Wilmore Said He Was Devastated By Jon Stewart’s Announcement

The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore is less than a month old and his having a huge growing pain. Jon Stewart, the host of its highly successful lead in, the Daily Show, is leaving. Wilmore told the Hollywood Reporter at the WGA Awards, "I was devastated just like everyone else just because of the thought of Jon leaving, but talking to him about it and everything, it feels like it's time for him to move on." Jon Stewart is also an executive producer on the Nightly Show.
