This week in late night starts on a fantastic note with the Tonight Show on Monday. Sam Morril is no stranger to late night television. He’s performed on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, @midnight and he’s made several appearances on Conan. However on Monday night, Sam Morril makes his Tonight Show debut, a coveted landmark in any comedian’s career. Sam will be promoting his first hour-long comedy special which is being produced under the Amy Schumer banner on Comedy Central. “Amy Schumer Presents Sam Morril: Positive Influence” arrives this Friday, September 14th at 11:00pm on Comedy Central. Before you watch Sam’s special and see his Tonight Show debut, you can to do some prep by checking out Debra Kessler’s review of Sam Morril’s “Positive Influence” which she’s calling “Gorgeous” and “Hilarious” on the Interrobang.
When you check the full listings below, you’ll see a few names repeated throughout the late night shows. This week, Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen are making joint appearances in late night to promote their new Amazon comedy “Forever.” In their new comedy series, Maya and Fred play a married couple trying to survive living in Suburbia after they’ve fallen into the same old dull routine, to quote Rupert Holmes. Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen will be on the Tonight Show on Monday and then on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Wednesday.
Also, Keegan-Michael Key will be doing more than one late night appearance this week, Keegan-Michael Key will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday and the Late Late Show with James Corden on Wednesday. However, the Key half of “Key & Peele” won’t be promoting a new comedy when he’s sitting down on different late night couches this week. Keegan-Michael is promoting his new sci-fi action film, “The Predator” (in theaters nationwide on Friday) which is a reboot of the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic. Not sure how much this re-imagination will be altered from the original, but hopefully at some point in “The Predator“, Keegan-Michael Key will get to scream “Get to the chopper!” But really, how good can the reboot be without using Jesse “The Body” Ventura proclaiming “I ain’t got time to bleed.”
Other quick highlights this week include Norm Mcdonald on the Tonight Show on Tuesday. Norm is a talk show host’s dream guest who always provides brilliant late night content. Norm will be plugging his new Netflix comedy interview series, “Norm Macdonald Has a Show.” The IBang has your handy guest list of celebrities who will be sitting down to talk with Norm on his new streaming talk show. Also, the hilarious Neal Brennan, who had one of the most original and innovative comedy specials of 2017 with “Neal Brennan: 3 Mics“, will be on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday night. “3 Mics” is available for streaming on Netflix. And then also on Thursday, there’s a repeat episode of Conan that’s definitely worth watching again with Bill Burr and a stand up performance from Marina Franklin. Finally on Saturday, there’s only two SNL repeats left until the new season premieres on September 29th and Saturday’s SNL Encore is one of our favorites of the past season with host Donald Glover and musical guest, Donald Glover as Childish Gambino.
Enjoy staying up late this week.
