Here’s a couple of quick notes to be aware of during the upcoming week of late night talk show comedy fun. The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and The Opposition with Jordan Klepper are both in reruns this week, which is amazing because it’s surprising that Jordan Klepper already has enough shows under his belt to fill up a week’s worth of repeats. C’mon Jordan. They can’t all be “Best” of.
Also, Mr. Conan O’Brien has the week off. He’s also doing repeats due to the MLB playoffs on TBS. Time Warning: If you want to catch one of Team Coco’s encore performances here, don’t look for it at 11pm as usually. That’s the plan, but with baseball games taking as long as they do to finish, Conan may be on much later each night. Extra innings could mean Conan possibly coming on at 3am.
Here’s some highlights to look forward to in late night this week. Tyler Perry’s movies have made an estimated 400 gazillion million billion dollars, so if you’re a Tyler Perry fan and who is(n’t), The Mother of Madea will be appearing on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday night. However, if you tune into Colbert that same night, you get comedian Tig Notaro with a side of Jackie Chan and retired CBS New legend Bob Schieffer. We report. You decide.
*Jimmy Fallon side-note: It looks like someone owes a big debt to last week’s 5-night Tonight Show guest Miley Cyrus. She does a week of shows for Jimmy F. and this Tuesday, Miley’s little sister, Noah Cyrus, is booked on the Tonight Show. Looks like if you scratch his back, Jimmy Fallon will scratch your little sister’s back. Wait. That didn’t come out right.
On Wednesday which is loaded with late night comedy, watch for Rachel Feinstein on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. Rachel is a hilarious comedian who has been breaking her way into more and more late night appearances. She’s been on the Late Late Show with James Corden, The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore and Chelsea Lately, and now she’s cracking into that coveted 11:30pm network spot. If you want to check out more on Rachel, she has a Comedy Central special out called “Amy Schumer Presents: Rachel Feinstein: Only Whores Wear Purple” plus you can hear a hilarious episode of Gail Meets Girls featuring Rachel Feinstein and Bridget Everett with Gail Bennington right here on The Interrobang Podcast Network.
Also on Wednesday, in the legends and icons department, Stephen Colbert welcomes the great Tracey Ullman to the Late Show on CBS.
Thursday is a brand new episode of The Chris Gethard Show. If you haven’t seen it yet, get over to truTV and check it out, especially this Thursday at 11pm with Chris’ special guests Tig Notaro and Patton Oswalt. Yes, the outrageous did just get more insane. And on Thursday, this may be the first time that Bill Murray has been booked in late night as an actual musical guest. Bill will be a sit-down guest on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and then join classical cellist Jan Vogler & Friends for a musical performance. Other than a quick cameo last year, this will be Bill Murray’s first time being an interview guest at the Ed Sullivan Theater on Broadway since David Letterman retired. Bill’s been keeping company with Jimmy Kimmel for the most part since then.
And then our final highlight of the work week comes from the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Above, we mentioned that Conan O’Brien is off this week for the baseball playoffs, but that doesn’t mean he can stay away from the late night talk show game. Conan gets a spot on Colbert’s couch this Friday. Well, well well Coco, it appears that the interviewer has become the interviewee.
