Did You Hear? With Kashmere! June 17: Taylor Swift, Cardi B’s Split and More!

Between dealing with kids, dealing with work, and dealing with Take Your Kids to Work Day, you may have missed some of the most insane things celebrities did this week. Well, have no fear — because Kashmere is here with his finger on the pulse and his eyes on every Instagram account of anyone worth talking about. From Oscar winners to reality TV royalty, to even actually royalty; here are the craziest stories going on this week. Welcome to our newest series, “Did You Hear? With Kashmere!”

Kashmere (also known as Danny Murphy) is a comedian, writer, and pop culture connoisseur (despite not really knowing how to spell connoisseur). He currently writes for Betches and Marie Claire and has also been featured in Glamour, Seventeen and Town & Country. When he’s not drinking red wine or iced coffee while watching Bravo, he’s performing around New York and hosting PASS THE AUX at The Stonewall Inn and DO I SEND IT? at Branded Saloon. Follow his fake reality show AKA his Instagram stories, @kashmeredanny.

I fully had to crack my eyes open today, egg style, because I’m still recovering from my grande hangover post-Ariana-Grande-concert. Aka, my Bar Mitzvah. I truly left that concert a man, and not because I spent $50 on a vodka cranberry. Anyway, some of our favorite (hmm) celebs also had packed weekends, so let’s get into it!

Taylor Swift Ended Homophobia (At Least, She Thinks She Did).  Taylor had a WEEKEND. After announcing her new album (Lover) Thursday, she also dropped that a new song would drop that night. Well, the clock struck midnight and… “You Need to Calm Down” was released in the wild. When I saw Twitter broke, I mean it full on snapped. A song about “haters and homophobes,” this song naturally got a mixed reaction — some loving her using her huge platform for good and others saying she’s just hopping on the Pride bandwagon to get press. My opinion on the matter? Just re-release “All Too Well” so I have a new version to cry into a bottle of Pinot Noir too. Read Dave Holmes’ amazing piece on this here.

TWO MORE TAYLOR UPDATES. Okay, we’re back to 2013 because suddenly, everything is about Taylor Swift. This honestly could be an entire Taylor breakdown but I need to send some love to my C-listers, too. So, to promote her new single, Swift: performed at The Stonewall Inn (SHE STOLE MY SHOW SPOT!) and also released a new music video with every LGBTQ+ celebrity you kind of know and… Katy Perry. They apparently ended their feud, or at least from a PR standpoint they did. Watch the video here.

Cardi B Splits Her Pants Open At Bonnaroo . Cardi, can I say that I have been there? No literally, my pants ripped when I was at Bonnaroo. The only difference is that yours happened on stage and was heavily photographed and mine happened when I was walking back to my tent because I quickly realized I don’t love music festivals and wanted to charge my phone. All I can say is ripping your multicolored jumpsuit to give your butthole and opening is… very Pride! Happy to have you as an ally, Cardi! And just be happy it wasn’t AS insane as Lenny Kravitz. See her pics on Page Six.

A New Diva’s In Town: Shania Twain Announces Vegas Residency. Let’s go, girls. If you’re a fan of country, pop, and Canada (who isn’t?) — then get your tickets pre-ordered for Shania Twain’s new residency! This comes at a perfect time, because fellow Canadian diva, Celine Dion, just announced the end of her’s to go on tour. Celine giving Shania her spot is further proof that Canadians are too pure for this world. Also, I just now realized that “Canadian Diva” and “Celine Dion” start with the same letters. I now understand Homeland. Read more details on Rolling Stone.

Gloria Vanderbilt Dies at 95. In sad news, fashion icon and definition of socialite Gloria Vanderbilt passed away today. Confirmed by her son, Anderson Cooper, she passed away surrounded by family and friends in her home. In honor of Gloria, take an Uber instead of public transportation today. Read more on CNN.
