Sorry Haters Aykroyd Claims New Ghostbusters is Best Yet

The concept and trailer for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters may be taking a lot of heat from the internet but don’t let that fool you into thinking Ghostbusters 2016 is a bust.

Dan Aykroyd posted on his Facebook that he has seen an early screening of the movie and has declared it the best Ghostbusters movie yet.  “Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films,” he said, adding, “plus Bill Murray is in it!”

And his vote ought to count. Remember, not only did Aykroyd star in the first two Ghostbusters films, he is the originator and creator of the entire franchise, and he wrote the original as well as the sequel.

“As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I’m paying to see that and bringing all my friends,” he declared.

The original film was released on June 8, 1984 to massive critical acclaim and box office success, and is ranked 28th on the American Film Institute’s list of 100 greatest comedy movies.

The Feig film was plagued with net-hate right from the get-go with the announcement that the long awaited continuation of the franchise would be led by an all female cast.  It seems that although the Ghosty fanverse was hungry for more Ghostbusting, they were more interested in a sequel to the series, not a reboot, and definitely not a female led reboot.  But Feig is unquestionably one of the best comedy directors working today, and when it comes to action comedy, it’s hard to imagine who would rank higher.  And he couldn’t have chosen a better cast for a female version- the film is helmed by SNL alums Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones, as well as Melissa McCarthy.  McCarthy and Feig are an unbeatable team, teaming up to create breakthrough movies like Bridesmaids, The Heat and Spy.

Earlier this week McCarthy told The Guardian, she is unconcerned about the haters, and now Aykroyd’s vote of confidence seems a strong indicator that the movie will indeed be a hit, and a great addition to the franchise.  Those who have been on set have told us they saw every indication that the movie will surpass all expectations, and we’re betting on a hit. Start the countdown to July 15, this should be an interesting ride.
