Our top ten lists were full of some brilliant comedy, some really funny comedy and some brilliantly funny comedy.  Congratulations to all the amazing creators who made our lists and so many who didn’t.  As always, we chose all our favorite comedy things this year, put them into lists, and let you choose the winners of the 2023 Readers Poll of The Best of Everything in Comedy this year.

In the category of BEST COMEDY TELEVISION SERIES, this year’s most voted show was RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES season three, which aired on HBO. It was a big year for third seasons, and all of the third season shows grabbed plenty of votes but none could catch up with Danny McBride’s latest masterpiece. It’s Succession, if Succession was a comedy, exploring the world of high powered businessmen and their ill equipped progeny who all think they are worthy of taking on the big chair when daddy retires.  Danny McBride undoubtably changed comedy and every swing he takes is a grand slam. Gemstones also won this award in its first season, and has been renewed for a fourth.  See all the nominees here.

BEST COMEDY MOVIE went to underdog and late entry, TAPAWINGO, undoubtedly due in part to how much everyone loves Chad Dukes.  No other movie came even close to the votes Tapawingo grabbed- its the little movie that could. Tapawingo feels like a 90’s indie comedy with a large brush of 80’s hijinx.  See all the nominees here.

Because its our TENTH ANNUAL YEAR IN COMEDY awards, we added a bonus category for BIGGEST COMEDY ICON OF THE LAST TEN YEARS.  This was a true dog fight with the last deciding votes coming in during the last hour. The win goes to BILL BURR, who started off this ten year run winning our Comedian of the Year award in 2014 and became a comedy giant.  He helped build the concept of a comedy podcast and maintained his position at the top, started a podcast network, crushed year after year with killer specials, toured like a king, had really impressive performances as a legitimate actor, created his own animated tv series, and finally rounded out the ten year run producing, directing and starring in a feature film. And Burr has big plans for the future.  Expect to see a lot more.
