Jon Stewart Is Back!…With The WWE

Jon Stewart returned to television, but not to talk politics with Stephen Colbert or to wish Larry Wilmore all the best. It was to wear a unicorn head band that lights up.

The former host of the Daily Show was back on the WWE Network at SummerSlam 2016 live from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Jon Stewart was a guest at the PPV wrestling event and got involved in the tag team championship match involving the champs, The New Day versus Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. If you follow the WWE or if you’ve been following Jon Stewart’s odd retirement, you’ll know that Stewart was at last year’s WWE SummerSlam where he turned heel (wrestling term) and hit John Cena with a chair, costing him the WWE Championship. Cena would get his revenge on Stewart the next night by bodyslamming Stewart to the canvas with his move, the Attitude Adjustment.

Jon Stewart started this year’s appearance by meeting the wrestlers backstage with his son Nate, who does an excellent job selling (another wrestling term) his facial expressions when his dad gets into a confrontation with Stephanie McMahon (top video below). Later, Jon Stewart would head to the ring to introduce the tag team champions, The New Day, by putting on his ridiculous looking headgear souvenir and declaring himself an official New Day member and Unicorn (nickname for a New Day fan).

After welcoming the crowd, Stewart did have a word of warning for anyone who finds themselves being thrown to the mat by John Cena, to tuck in your shirt. Apparently, he was still embarrassed over his “old man belly” (Jon Stewart’s term for his stomach) being exposed to the entire WWE Universe. (See the bottom video below) Once the tag team championship was underway, Stewart would interfere in the match and was almost injured by Gallows and Anderson and their move called “Ring Post-itus” (a polite way of saying Jon Stewart was going to get his balls smashed into a ring post), but he was saved at the last minute by the returning third member of the New Day tag team.

All sound confusing? Of course it does, but not as confusing as why Jon Stewart is doing so much wrestling in his semi-retirement? So far, the only reason is that it’s for his kid. So it really doesn’t matter that the respected comedian and former host of the Daily Show is now wearing a light up unicorn horn and almost getting his testicles destroyed while being worried about his old man belly showing, as long as Nate’s happy.
