French Moroccan Comedian Gad Elmaleh to Play Carnegie Hall

Last month, we reported that French Moroccan comedian Gad Elmaleh, arguably Europe’s most high-profile comedian, was trying his hand at the American comedy circuit. Elmaleh is currently in the midst of a residency at Joe’s Pub in NYC, through June 15th, and will be embarking on a string of shows across major cities in the U.S. and Canada this August. It was even announced that the comic would be opening for Jerry Seinfeld during one of his monthly sets at the Beacon Theater. The shows were going to be, by far, the largest venues that Elmaleh has ever performed at in North America — that is, until this latest announcement.

Elmaleh just announced today that he will be playing an additional date after his slew of shows this summer, one that will eclipse by far all of the other venues he’s played in North America to date — Carnegie Hall. Elmaleh’s tour runs from August 31st to September 10th (with the Seinfeld show falling on June 8th,) during which he’ll be performing his all-English set, Oh My Gad, in cities like Boston, Toronto, Seattle, and Los Angeles. The comedian will then take a break from touring, during which he’ll likely perform some small sets around NYC in preparation for his show at Carnegie Hall on February 11th, 2017.

The Carnegie show is a huge deal for Elmaleh, who only began to learn English a few years ago. For a comic to go from selling out stadiums in Europe to playing small clubs in the U.S., performing in his second language, is a big deal, and indicative of Elmaleh’s love for comedy and his desire to step outside his comfort zone and bring his comedy to an even broader audience.
