Dave Chappelle on Suggesting We Give Trump a Chance: “I F@#ked Up”

Remember Dave Chappelle’s monologue on Saturday Night Live back in November, shortly after the election of Donald Trump? The one where he wished Trump good luck and said that he would “give him a chance, and we, the historically disenfranchised, demand that he give us one too?” Yeah, he regrets that.

NBC’s Willie Geist was in attendance at a New York City benefit for the non-profit organization Robin Hood, which aims to end poverty in the area. Chappelle performed a set at the benefit and, according to Geist, had this to say of his now infamous monologue:

Chappelle’s sentiment during the monologue was obviously a wary one, but it came from a good place. He tried to give Trump the benefit of the doubt, and only 5 months into Trump’s term, has decided (like many Americans) that it was fruitlessly optimistic.
