The Container Store Gives Best Response to Jim Norton Tweet

NORTON CONTAINER

Over on Twitter, The Container Store put on a clinic on how to use social media properly. Comedian Jim Norton tweeted Tuesday evening that, at that particular moment, he was struggling not to shit his pants in a New York City Container Store, a most terrible situation indeed. Norton received some likes and well wishes from fans, but also got a response from the official Container Store Twitter page.

While many corporate entities have struggled to use social media organically and effectively in the past, that obviously isn’t an issue for The Container Store’s Twitter manager, who delivered this masterful response to Norton:

Jim Norton: “For anyone interested, I’m about to shit my pants in the Container Store.”

The Container Store: “@Jim Norton Hope you made it to the bathroom, but you could use a weathertight tote in case of emergency — it’s airtight. No returns though” the account tweeted in response.

A corporation encouraging consumers to shit in its products while in their store? Not common in today’s world, though it’s exactly the right move. There’s a few different ways that TCS could have reacted to the tweet: by responding with stuffy corporate lingo, by making a pitiful attempt at PG humor, or by simply ignoring it altogether. TCS instead chose to genuinely engage with a customer and comic known for his crassness, embracing his sense of humor and furthering the joke, to great success. Everyone had a laugh, nobody was offended, and The Container Store, according to the comments under the tweet, gained at least a few new followers.

Norton obviously appreciated the tweet as well:
