Ari Shaffir No Longer Hosting Ari Shaffir’s This is Not Happening

This Is Not Happening, the Comedy Central storytelling show created and hosted by comedian , now has a new host: The comic, currently a beloved correspondent on with Trevor Noah, will take over hosting duties for the show’s upcoming fourth season.

While Shaffir has shared links to tapings for the show that allude to Wood Jr. as the show’s new host, he hasn’t directly addressed why he’s giving up the hosting position. The most direct acknowledgment of the news is on the Blacklist NYC page for future episode tapings, which states “We love Ari and we miss him already. It has been an incredible, life-changing run together. But now we are moving on.” Things sound amicable, but Shaffir has a double special coming out on Netflix next month which might have caused some friction with the network.

The upcoming fourth season of the show will be taping over the course of two weekends in Los Angeles: June 7th—9th and June 19th—22nd, with shows at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. each night. Tickets to the tapings, taking place as usual at Cheetahs in Hollywood, are totally free, and can be reserved by following this link.

Each episode of the show is jam-packed with killer comics and notable celebrities, all telling stories from their lives that are often mortifying, usually insane, and always hilarious. Some of the storytellers that will be featured on the show this season include Joey Diaz, Kurt Metzger, Yamaneika Saunders, , Bert Kreischer, Jesse Reed, Al Madrigal, Nate Bargatze, Tommy Chong, Krystyna Hutchinson, Eddie Pepitone, Michael McDonald, , Dan Soder, Big , Taleb Kweli, Tiffany Haddish, Steve Simeone and many, many more.

This Is Not Happening’s fourth season is scheduled to debut on Comedy Central sometime this fall.

This move was ridiculous. you can listen to Bobby Lee’s view on the topic in his most recent episode of his podcast tiger belly with Ari. Ari is known for doing things his way and not caring about the money or fame or repercussions these things may have. He is in it for the love of comedy. Ari, very intelligently, figured that if he release his special on netflix, he would both receive significantly more viewers of his content, but also have a larger amount of control on the production. In response to Ari working with netflix instead of Comedy Central, CC decided to find a new host. This show was Ari’s design, most of the comedians who have been on the show have been public in noting that the reason they did it was because he was the host. This is a horrible move by comedy central, and I can’t wait until Ari is able to comment on this without having to deal with litigation and legal bullshit.
