Zach Galifianakis Does a Teen Magazine Profile on Kimmel

In late night television, hosts don’t want to burn out their audiences on a guest, so usually some time goes by in between visits. For Jimmy Kimmel and guest Zach Galifianakis, that space was one week. Zach pulled off the rare occurrence of appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live twice in the span of 7 days. Of course when you have as many things going on as Zach Galifianakis, this is bound to happen. Last night, Zach Galifianakis was on JKL to promote his new comedy “Keeping Up with the Joneses” co-starring Jon Hamm, Gal Gardot and Isla Fisher. Last week, Zach was on Kimmel, along with Kristen Wiig and Owen Wilson, to promote his other comedy in theaters, “Masterminds”, which didn’t exactly do boffo business at the box office, bringing in about $6 million. Kimmel broke that news to Zach who was under the impression that the ensemble comedy brought in $200 million. Ouch.

Zach Galifianakis knew how awkward another interview happening so soon could be, so he wanted to cover his bases. He claimed that last week, Kimmel’s applause sign was broken, so he brought his own human applause sign, Marcus, with him. They’ve been working together in the applause field for about 20 years now. Zach also helped out Jimmy Kimmel with the interview by providing him with a 1978 “Teen Bag” magazine which did a celebrity profile on a young Willie Aames which older readers may know from “Eight is Enough” fame and after that “Charles in Charge” fame and after that, “Celebrity Fit Club” and rehab fame. Zach figured that Jimmy Kimmel could just use the same questions in his interview, that the magazine used to ask a 1970s teen heartthrob. So we learned, what Zach Galifiankis likes to do on a first date (his wife is fine with that), plus what’s happening with his own music and how he balances an acting and a music career at the same time.

The good news out of the interview is that Zach Galifianakis said that shooting is underway for the second season of his FX series, “Baskets” which won Louie Anderson an Emmy award for playing his mother on the show. Zach actually forgot that Louie was up for the award and found out about the win via text from sister. At least he has one relative excited about “Baskets”. His Aunt Louise had a more negative review of the show which you can watch in the clips below.

“Keeping Up with the Joneses” starring Zach Galifianakis, Jon Hamm, Gal Gardot and Isla Fisher is in theaters everywhere on Friday, October 21st.
