It’s a new week of late night comedy and we welcome a new player to the late night talk show schedule. Starting Monday night, “Last Call with Carson Daly” is no more. So to paraphrase President Ford, “Our long national television nightmare is over.”
Taking the place of the cancelled Carson Daly gabfest on Monday night is YouTuber turned network television talk show host, Lilly Singh. Hailing from Canada, Lilly exploded on YouTube with her channel “IISuperwomanII” in 2010. By 2017, her YouTubing was earning Lilly over $10 million. In order to kick off her new show, A Little Late with Lilly Singh at 1:30am et on NBC (Carson Daly’s old time slot,) Lilly will be making appearances on Monday on both the Tonight Show and Late Night with Seth Meyers. Her inaugural guests Monday night going into Tuesday morning, will be Rainn Wilson and Mindy Kaling.
Also on Monday, schedule Lights Out with David Spade on your DVR because he’s stacked the deck with his panel guests. Spade welcomes two the best names in comedy to Lights Out with Bill Burr and Jim Jefferies. It’s safe to say that no one’s safe when Spade, Burr and Jefferies take on the top pop culture stories on the day on Lights Out on Comedy Central.
Speaking of stacking up comedy guests, Monday on Jimmy Kimmel Live, several big names in comedy have been listed as “special appearances” instead of guests on JKL. Whitney Cummings, Jeff Ross, Natasha Leggero and Henry Winkler will all be making “special appearances” on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday. This could mean anything from a new JKL game show to reading some really mean tweets. Tune in Monday to Jimmy Kimmel Live to find out.
Tuesday night, it’s the long awaited return of The Jim Jefferies Show to Comedy Central. Jim expanded his show by adding a lot more out of the studio elements to it last season. He promises even more of this on the new episodes of The Jim Jefferies Show airing Tuesday nights at 10:30pm et on CC.
We also have stand up performances to look forward to this week, starting on Tuesday’s edition of Conan. Jena Friedman is returning to Conan for another stand up set. She’s produced for the Daily Show and written for Letterman. You’ve also seen her on Colbert, @midnight and in her own special “Jena Friedman: American Cunt“. She probably won’t be plugging that name out loud on Conan on Tuesday.
And if you’re a nostalgia lover, on Tuesday, Stephen Colbert welcomes the cast of the original “Brady Bunch” to the Late Show. Enjoy a late night snack of pork chops and apple sauce and be in by 11:30pm et to see the grown up Brady kids. And those are our exact words.
Wednesday brings some stand up to the Late Late Show on CBS. James Corden seems to be booking a lot more stand up on his show than he has in the past. We’re thrilled about it and Wednesday is no exception when the Late Late Show welcomes West Coast comedian Andrew Orolfo. A break out comic in the San Francisco Bay area, Andrew has been performing at festivals all over the country and has become a fixture at SF Sketchfest among others.
Also on Wednesday, Stephen Colbert welcomes comedy icon Billy Crystal. Is it too early to name next year’s Oscars host!? While over on ABC, Jimmy Kimmel has one of his favorite guests, Zach Galifianakis, stopping by. Zach always turns JKL into a must-see television event.
Just when you thought no more stand up could be packed into the late night schedule this week, there’s more! We are so excited that Mark Normand is returning to the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon for a performance. Mark has made several appearances on Conan, along with performances on Colbert and Corden. You’ve heard his podcast “Tuesdays with Stories” with co-host Joe List and you’ve seen his stand up special “Amy Schumer Presents Mark Normand: Don’t Be Yourself” and now we’re excited to see that he’s becoming a Tonight Show regular.
Looking ahead to the weekend, it’s the final rerun of Saturday Night Live‘s long summer break. SNL will be back with its Season 45 premiere on Saturday, September 28th, but before we get to the premiere, SNL is airing the homecoming episode hosted by Adam Sandler. It was Sandler’s first time hosting Saturday Night Live ever. The episode was packed with comedy as well as being emotionally filled. It’s the perfect edition of SNL to wrap up its hiatus with this Saturday night.
There’s plenty of comedy being booked into late night now with new shows debuting, so be sure to always check the full listings below so that you don’t miss a laugh.
