Who is On Late Night Tonight in Comedy: Week of November 23, 2020

Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?

This week, Conan calls it quits, Jerry & Jimmy spend Thanksgiving together, and Colbert hosts the President, but which one!?

Our late night world was shaken this past week when Conan O’Brien announced that he was done hosting his nightly comedy talk show “Conan” on TBS. No one should panic immediately though. Conan will still be around until next summer. The late night talker said he was going to finish out his TBS contract which will complete his 10th season in June, 2021. It’s really hard to believe that the basic cable portion of Conan O’Brien’s career has lasted a decade already.

Conan O’Brien has had one of the more bizarre career tracks in late night. He lifted off from the late night launch pad in 1993 when he became the mostly unknown name who replaced the legendary David Letterman as the host of Late Night on NBC. In 2004, Conan O’Brien was told straight out that he would get the Tonight Show‘s hosting chair in 5 years time when Jay Leno steps down. Then 2009 came along, and the show did indeed become the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. However…..

We didn’t know that Jay Leno wasn’t done with the Tonight Show yet. Conan was offered a deal that would keep him as host of the iconic name-brand Tonight Show, but its format and time slot would be changed drastically. Rather than fuck with the integrity of an American institution like the Tonight Show, Conan stepped away which brought him to TBS and the Conan show which began in 2010. After 28 years in late night, Conan the person will be leaving for HBO Max according to a press release where he will begin hosting a once-a-week variety show.

So, we have until next summer to enjoy this version of “Conan” before we have to say goodbye. Unfortunately, with only a certain amount of weeks left before Conan O’Brien leaves TBS, this week is all Conan repeats. So that’s one week down the drain. This week, Team Coco is re-airing Conan O’Brien’s international specials, “Conan Without Borders.”

Starting on Monday, Conan will re-air his travels overseas to lands far and wide. On Monday, we start with a repeat of “Conan in Armenia.” Tuesday night is a re-airing of “Conan in Korea.” Wednesday evening, TBS has a repeat of “Conan Without Borders: Made in Mexico.” Finally on Thursday, Team Coco is off to Africa for a repeat of “Conan in Ghana” with special guest Sam Richardson of “Veep.”

In other repeat late night comedy news, on Tuesday night, check out a repeat of the Daily Social Distancing Show with Trevor Noah on Comedy Central. Trevor Noah’s special guest will be Kevin Hart. It’s one repeat on this week’s schedule that you’re not going to want to miss.

After that, make sure to change your channel to CBS at 11:30pm et on Tuesday night. In a non-comedy late night highlight, Stephen Colbert welcomes the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, to the Late Show. The former President will be promoting his brand new memoir, “A Promised Land” which is available now. And when the former POTUS is done selling books, President Obama should have plenty to say about our 45th President not wanting to leave the White House when it’s time for the 46th President to move into the place.

Wednesday is a huge night for late night comedy. And it even starts before late night. In prime time, SNL will be airing a Thanksgiving special the night before we all give thanks. “A Saturday Night Live Thanksgiving Special” begins at 9pm et on Wednesday evening on NBC. The comedy continues after that. In late night on Wednesday, we get Chris Rock on the Late Late Show with James Corden, Melissa McCarthy on the Tonight Show and John Oliver will be on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

And on Thursday night, when football is all done on Thanksgiving, NBC has a couple of great late night leftovers. First, Jerry Seinfeld will be on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon for a special Thanksgiving appearance. Then, it’s the Late Night with Seth Meyers Thanksgiving episode that has become a holiday tradition.

Each year, for his Thanksgiving show, Seth Meyers has his family as his guests on Late Night. Seth Meyers’ guest on Thanksgiving night will be his mom, Hillary Meyers, his dad, Larry Meyers and his brother Josh Meyers who you know from “MADtv” and “That ’70s Show.” Seth and his family reminisce together and play plenty of holiday family games. It’s a great late night tradition each year when Seth Meyers shares his family with yours.

Have a Happy & Safe Thanksgiving! And you can do that by making sure your turkey wears a mask.
