Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?

This week, we get Nasim Pedrad swapping genders, a Tonight Show debut, and an SNL filled with controversy, (well, maybe).

There’s a lot of great comedy names in late night this week. From the iconic ones to the new up-and-comers, this week in late night has everyone covered.

Our late night highlights this week start on Monday when Nasim Pedrad, the star of the new TBS original comedy series “Chad“, visits Conan O’Brien. It’s one TBS property helping out another in an evening of self-promotion for the network. Plus, we’ll hear exactly how a beautiful Iranian female comedian who is older than 30 (we’re not telling exact ages here) can play a 14 year old male freshman dealing with all the pressures that come with high school life. “Chad” airs Tuesdays at 10:30pm et on TBS.

Also on Monday, Tiffany Haddish drops by the Late Late Show with James Corden to talk about her many projects. First, she stars opposite of the legendary Billy Crystal in the new comedy “Here Today” which will be in theaters nationwide on Friday, May 7th. Check to see if your local movie theater is open, then if it is, check for the times that “Here Today” is playing.

Plus, Miss Haddish has a brand new season hosting the latest version of “Kids Say The Darndest Things” which was originally created and hosted by television legend Art Linkletter. Another incarnation of the show was hosted by Bill Cosby in the late 90’s, but we probably don’t want to mention that either. “Kids Say The Darndest Things” premieres this Wednesday on its new network CBS at 8pm et.

Monday is filled with plenty of comedy in late night including Michael Che on Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote his new sketch comedy series “That Damn Michael Che” which just premiered on the streaming platform HBO Max. And his Saturday Night Live cast mate Aidy Bryant, who is back to work on SNL full time, now that her Hulu series “Shrill” has wrapped on its third and final season will be talking with Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show. Lil Baby Aidy stars in “Shrill” which premieres its new season on Hulu this Friday, May 7th.

On Tuesday, two of the top women in comedy will be appearing in late night. First, Paula Pell, the Emmy Award winning writer for Saturday Night Live, will be on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. She’s stars in the Netflix comedy “Wine Country.” Paula steps in front of the camera for a change and she co-stars in “Wine Country” with other notable alumni from Saturday Night Live including Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and Rachel Dratch.

Later on Tuesday, the Queen of Daytime Comedy, Ellen DeGeneres visits Late Night with Seth Meyers. Ellen continues to hit the late night circuit to prove she’s really a nice person despite all the alleged rumors of her tyrannical behavior on the set of her daytime talk show. Of course, Ellen also really wants to plug her prime time series “Ellen’s Game of Games” on NBC. The show has outrageous games where Ellen puts contestants through the ringer in nutty contests including Blindfolded Musical Chairs, Dizzy Dash, and Oh Ship!. The game show returned to television for a new summer season on NBC this past Sunday.

Congratulations go out this week to Joyelle Nicole Johnson who will be making her Tonight Show debut on Wednesday, May 5th. She’s appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers, along with playing herself on the HBO comedy series “Crashing” starring Pete Holmes, and she was the warm-up comedian for “Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj.” Watch for her to earn another late night credit when she appears on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night on NBC.

On Thursday, we recommend you check out Late Night with Seth Meyers for an appearance by Ziwe. The mononymous comedy powerhouse visits Seth to discuss her new sketch comedy series which includes her mock interviews done “Between Two Ferns” style this coming Sunday, May 9th on Showtime. The show and its star and creator have the same name, “ZIWE.” It’s just that you use the “Caps Lock” function on your keyboard to spell the series’ name.

Ziwe has all the comedy credentials a person would need to get their own series on Showtime. She’s worked on the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. She’s written for Stephen Colbert’s “Our Cartoon President“, “The Rundown with Robin Thede” and “Desus & Mero.” And now she’s bringing her hilarious yet pointed and confrontational questions for celebrity guests to her new Showtime series, “ZIWE.” The premium cable channel’s newest comedic voice premieres this Sunday, May 9th at 11pm et.

Our next highlight skips ahead to the weekend. That’s when Saturday Night Live returns with new, lives shows coming from Studio 8-H at 30 Rock. And SNL is coming back with some controversy. The host this Saturday who kicks off the last new shows of SNL – Season 46, is the CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, Elon Musk.

One certain NYC tabloid (New York Post) is trying to stir up trouble on the SNL set by saying some of the cast members may not want to perform with the host who among other controversies, came out as an anti-vaxxer and was downplaying the effects of the Covid19 virus. All of that will more than likely be used as a comedy fodder this coming Saturday on a new episode of Saturday Night Live on NBC.

Looks like a great week ahead filled with laughs and smiles. Well, that’s if you skip the daytime parts and just focus on the late nights.
