Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?
This week, Eric Andre is taking a “Bad Trip” to Colbert, Conan O’Brien hosts a legend, and Sarah Silverman says she’s sorry.
Looking at this week’s schedules, there’s is not an abundance of comedy guests booked on our late night television shows. However, the guests of a comedy nature that are booked to appear are fantastic ones. So, even though there’s not a lot, there’s still some choice comedy to savor this week.
On Monday, Eric Andre is booked on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Eric will be promoting an innovative new comedy that he’s starring in. Available on March 26th, Andre stars in “Road Trip” which is being released by Netflix. The film was due for a theater release last April, but that was before theaters got shut down.
“Road Trip” co-stars Eric Andre and Lil Rel Howrey in a buddy road comedy that’s also part prank show. The two are playing characters traveling across country in a stolen car. The car’s owner is played by the fantastically hilarious, Tiffany Haddish who’s in hot pursuit. That makes it hilarious, but here’s what makes it innovative.
Eric and Lil Rel are placed in a series of stunts and prank moves throughout their trek during the film. However, real-life bystanders are in the film, reacting in real-time to the stunts and they are completely unaware that what they’re watching is for a movie.
There’s one scene where Tiffany Haddish’s character is threatening to drop Eric Andre off a building, while the people below (who don’t know any better) are begging her to stop. “Bad Trip” is produced by “Jackass” producer Jeff Tremaine, so you know it comes with a true prank show pedigree. Eric Andre can probably explain this whole concept a lot better when you see him on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night.
Having Eric Andre on your guest list is great enough, but Stephen Colbert is saying, “wait, there’s more.” Also on Monday’s edition of the Late Show on CBS, Colbert welcomes Ringo Starr. So, tune in to the Late Show for the laughs from Eric Andre and then stick around to watch Colbert get all gushy over one of the legendary Beatles. That always makes for a pretty good Late Show.
Speaking of loving our legends, Wednesday night, Conan O’Brien who always has a soft spot for the comedy greats, has a virtual interview with one of our favorites, Mr. Louie Anderson. Team Coco always loves it when they can score a visit from the iconic comedian and on Wednesday, Louie Anderson will be on Conan to talk about reprising his role as America’s favorite lettuce washer in “Coming 2 America.”
Louie returns with Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, John Amos and most of the original cast for the new Amazon Prime comedy sequel, “Coming 2 America.” Not only did Eddie Murphy get most of his cast back together again, he still has them all out promoting the new comedy. Watch for Louie on Conan on Wednesday on TBS and you can learn more about “Louie Anderson’s Return to McDowell’s and Coming to America 2” in a article by our own Debra Kessler here on the IBang.
Looking ahead to Thursday night, the great Sarah Silverman returns as a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers on NBC. Sarah found herself in a controversy this past week and it’s one from 14 years ago. It’s hard to believe that Sarah could still be getting herself into trouble for something that happened back in 2007, but when it comes to Sarah Silverman, anything can happen.
Recently, Sarah Silverman engaged in some podcast peace talks with one of her former favorite targets, Paris Hilton. Here’s what happened. Picture it! The MTV Movie Awards, 2007. Paris Hilton is hours away from reporting to prison to serve a sentence for a probation violation from an earlier DUI. She wants to chill on her last night of freedom, so she heads to the MTV Movie Awards hosted by Sarah Silverman who spots Paris in the audience and goes off.
Sarah Silverman just decimated Paris Hilton verbally from the stage. Comedy fans will remember this and the look on Paris’ face while it happened. The hotel heiress was not happy. Now head back to 2021, and Paris is telling the world (or the tiny portion of it listening to her podcast) how Sarah humiliated her 14 years ago. 2021’s Sarah Silverman heard about Paris sharing her story of shame and goes on her podcast “The Sarah Silverman Podcast” and does a complete mea culpa to Ms. Hilton. Will the apologies continue on Late Night this Thursday!? Is that why she’s booked on Seth’s show!? Let’s all watch Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday night and find out.
If you love comedy that you’ve already seen before, then this weekend is just for you. Because there’s plenty of late night laughs in repeats starting on Friday night. First up, you can catch a replay of Eddie Murphy on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Then, keep watching NBC for A Little Late with Lilly Singh repeat where Lilly’s guest will be an encore of her virtual conservation with the hilarious Bob the Drag Queen. Finally on Saturday night, Saturday Night Live is re-airing an episode hosted by the “Schitt’s Creek” Emmy Award winning creator, Dan Levy.
May the luck of the Irish be with you this week. Hopefully, you’ll find some comedy at the end of your rainbow.
