Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?
This week, Conan books his favorites, Seth Meyers books a pair of newcomers, and Seth Rogen books a whole new look.
It looks to be a very funny week in late night television. Just about all of our hosts are back to work after being on vacation last week. And that’s because sometimes it takes a whole week to celebrate Memorial Day.
The countdown clock is ticking on “Conan“, the TBS version of Conan O’Brien’s late night talk show. If you add it all together, Conan O’Brien will have had 28 years as a late night talk show host during his career which began in 1993 when he first sat behind the desk on “Late Night” on NBC and replaced David Letterman. Team Coco has announced that Thursday, June 24th would be the last episode of “Conan” on TBS.
So before Conan O’Brien heads for the exit at the iconic comedy venue, Largo at The Coronet, where he’s been doing an audience-less show for almost a year, he’s having some friends over. Conan’s team is booking some of his favorite entertainers before he heads to HBO Max for a new once-a-week show. On Tuesday, Conan O’Brien welcomes Sarah Silverman to his show to say goodbye. This will be Sarah’s 9th appearance on the TBS “Conan” series.
Kevin Nealon says farewell to Conan on Wednesday night’s show. Saturday Night Live‘s former Weekend Update anchorman will be making his 20th appearance on “Conan” on Wednesday night. And on Thursday night, Tig Notaro who’s performed brilliant comedy sets on “Conan” stops by for one last time on TBS. Thursday evening will be Tig’s 17th visit to “Conan“.
Seth Meyers is known for showcasing young comedians on Late Night on NBC. This week is no different when Seth welcomes two comedy up-and-comers. On Monday, Quinta Brunson will be appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers to discuss her new sitcom. Quinta has had a breakthrough past 5 years in comedy. She’s worked with Larry Wilmore on his talk series and she was part of the cast for the first season of “A Black Lady Sketch Show” on HBO.
Last month, it was announced that ABC was picking up Quinta’s new workplace sitcom, “Abbott Elementary.” She will write the series as well as executive produce it. It’s about a public school in Philadelphia where Quinta Brunson plays one of the teachers trying to make a difference in the school system and her students’ lives.
On Tuesday, Seth Meyers welcomes Carmen Christopher to Late Night. He’s promoting his debut comedy special. One of the many unique things about Carmen Christopher’s new special is that it’s one of the first produced by the new Peacock streaming service. It’s proof that Peacock wants to rival Netflix in the hour-long comedy special game.
Carmen Christopher acts in addition to doing stand-up. He’s had a recurring role on Aidy Bryant series “Shrill” and has appeared on several Chris Gethard projects. In his new hour, “Carmen Christopher: Street Special“, the actor-comedian found a way to still perform for people when all the comedy clubs were closing due to the pandemic.
Since the people couldn’t come to Carmen’s shows, he brought his show to the people. He takes his comedy persona to the streets and performs outside of restaurants, on city sidewalks, at Union Square and anywhere he could corner an audience in NYC. “Carmen Christopher: Street Special” is available now and it’s streaming on Peacock.
For the past few weeks, social media was buzzing over how drastically Seth Rogen has changed up his look. Most people found him unrecognizable after he lost some weight, shaved off his beard and was spotted with a bitchin’ mullet hairstyle. Thursday, you’ll get a chance to see how he looks for yourselves.
Seth Rogen will be a guest on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday night. And he’ll be talking about the role which was the reason for his transformation. Seth was spotted with his new look while filming scenes for the upcoming Hulu bio-pic mini-series, “Pam & Tommy.” It’s the biographical story of one of Rock’s most talked-about couples, “Playboy” playmate Pam Anderson from “Baywatch” fame and Tommy Lee, the drummer for the notorious metal legends, Mötley Crüe.
Lily James will portray Pam Anderson and Tommy Lee is played by the “Winter Soldier” himself, Sebastian Stan. Where does Seth Rogen come into the picture you ask? He plays Rand Gauthier. For those of us who don’t know, and that includes me, Rand was the infamous electrician who stole a safe from the Lee home back in the ’90s after he was fired by Tommy Lee. Set your DVR for the Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday to get a look at the new Seth Rogen.
