Who is On Late Night Tonight in Comedy: Week of June 29, 2020

Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?

This week leads us right into the 4th of July holiday, so that means one thing. Summer vacations are officially underway. And although most vacations will be converted into stay-cations this summer thanks to a stupid virus, our late night talk shows will all be taking some time off this week.

Some are taking more time than others. While some late night talkers are just off for this week, others have begun a long summer’s nap. Jimmy Kimmel, as reported last week, will be off until after he hosts the Primetime Emmy Awards on September 20th. That is if he gets to host the Emmys with all the heat aimed his way due to social media musketeers calling for his head for past indiscretions regarding race and misogyny.

Also, Bill Maher announced just this past Friday that he will be taking all of July off which he usually does anyway during the summer even when there’s not a global pandemic happening. He did promise that he’d be back to host Real Time on HBO in time to cover the national political conventions happening at the end of the summer. Even though, we have no idea what those will end up looking like. As far as we can tell, Trump will hold his convention in a hot, steamy Jacksonville, Florida Covid laboratory with no masks allowed and Joe Biden will hold is in his basement with just him and his running mate standing across the room from each other in protective bubble-wrap.

This week, there will be no Daily Social Distancing Show with Trevor Noah at all on Comedy Central. Not even in reruns. Trevor Noah’s nightly news show updating us on racism and viruses will be pre-empted on CC this week. Every other show will be in Best Of repeats till after Independence Day. That’s also when Jimmy Kimmel Live comes back with new episodes, but with no Jimmy Kimmel. He’ll have guest hosts on JKL instead.

Late Night with Seth Meyers is the place to go for after-dark comedy guests this week. Seth’s repeats are packed with very funny people to get you through a week of reruns. On this week on repeats on Late Night, Seth will be talking to the host of Last Week Tonight on HBO, John Oliver (Monday), stand up comic extraordinaire John Mulaney (Tuesday), the man formerly known as”The Last Man on Earth” Will Forte, and the conquering hero of Netflix and the star & creator of “After Life” Ricky Gervais (Thursday).

Other highlights from all the late night repeat shows this week also include Howie Mandel hanging out remotely with Jimmy Kimmel on a Jimmy Kimmel Live rerun on Tuesday. And if you can’t sleep Wednesday night, you might as well stay up laughing with an encore of Vanessa Gonzalez’s stand up performance on A Little Late with Lilly Singh on NBC.

Then on Friday night, here’s your chance to see the fabulously funny Melissa McCarthy on the other side of a late night desk. James Corden will be re-airing an episode of the Late Late Show when Melissa McCarthy filled in as host. So it’s a vacation repeat of a vacation show. James Corden is so meta.

For those of you Saturday Night Live fans who have been enjoying the “SNL Vintage” episodes in prime time on Saturday nights on NBC, here’s some bad news. This coming weekend, the “SNL Vintage” episode will be pre-empted Saturday for the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular special on NBC.

The regular SNL repeat will air in its regular Saturday Night Live time slot at 11:30pm on NBC. This weekend’s SNL rerun is hosted by Scarlett Johannson. Anyone who’s into seeing some PDAs with Scarlett and her fiancée, Saturday Night Live cast member and Weekend Update anchorman Colin Jost, this is a good episode to catch again.

Celebrate America this week. We’re just sorry the country has to spend her birthday sick.
