Who is On Late Night Tonight in Comedy: Week of December 14, 2020

Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?
This week, Fallon has a reunion, what was Colbert thinking, and the Cheetah is running wild through late night.
Things must be getting back to somewhat normal while we’re still in the grips of the global pandemic. Movie and TV stars are virtually visiting our regular line up of late night shows to promote their projects coming out for the holidays or the new year. We’ve spent most of 2020 with no one plugging a film or a series or a record. In true American fashion, we’ve learned to get our entertainment back on track while our hospitals are being overloaded.
Jimmy Kimmel is the late night host who scored a virtual appearance with Taylor Swift this week. The young music mogul just turned 31 years old and she’ll be on JKL to promote her new album, “Evermore.” With a virtual interview lined up for Jimmy Kimmel Live, there’s very little doubt that Kanye West will be able to interrupt her on Monday night.
On Tuesday, Stephen Colbert has a show line-up that really doesn’t go quite together. First he welcomes Whoopi Goldberg virtually to the Late Show, then he has Father James Martin who is a top Catholic and editor-at-large of the Jesuit magazine “America.”
Sure, Whoopi has played a nun in the past, but with that potty mouth, it’s hard to believe her and Father James will be on the same show. If this was back in the days when people actually appeared live and in-person on late night shows, there would have been trouble in the Late Show green room.
Speaking of Whoopi and the Catholic Church, it was just announced that Madam Whoops will be back to star and executive produce the third installment of her hit comedy film, “Sister Act.” Whoopi’s second “Sister Act” sequel will debut on the Disney+ platform and Tyler Perry will be a co-executive producer on the project.
Wednesday night, Jimmy Fallon will have an interview with his SNL buddy, Tina Fey. She just hosted “One Night Only: The Best of Broadway” this past Thursday for NBC. Now she’ll be talking with the guy who was her co-anchor on “Weekend Update” on Saturday Night Live. It’s always sweet to see these two giggle together and give us an SNL story we hadn’t heard before.
Then on Thursday in some non-comedy highlights, Jimmy Fallon has a couple of big stars on the Tonight Show. First, he’s got Paul McCartney who people love because, you know…. the Beatles. Then Fallon welcomes a TV star that people are loving even though most folks haven’t even seen his face. The star of “The Mandalorian“, Pedro Pascal will be appearing on the Tonight Show.
Season 2 of “The Mandalorian” is out on Disney+. The Mando doesn’t normally show his face on his series. But if you checked out the season finale this past week, you saw that guest star Bill Burr got to see it as well as the viewers. BTW, fans loved the return of Bill Burr’s “Star Wars” character “Mayfeld”. He’s a former Imperial sharpshooter, but now he’s a galactic gun for hire and he’s loose again. Beware galaxy far, far away.
Finally, speaking of fantasy adventures, late night television this week will be dominated by the stars of the new comic book movie, “Wonder Woman 1984.” Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) and former SNL cast member Kristen Wiig (The Cheetah) will be touring the late night shows this week. They’ll appear separately with Gal Gadot making stops by the Tonight Show (Monday night) and the Late Late Show (Thursday night).
The sketch comedy goddess turned comic book villainess, Kristen Wiig has plans this week to visit the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday and then Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday. Then on Saturday, Kristen “The Cheetah” Wiig returns to SNL to host the show for the fourth time since she left after being a cast member for 7 seasons. And if you check out SNL Encores at 10pm et on NBC on Saturday night, you can watch an old SNL from 2017 when Kevin Hart hosted with musical guests, the Foo Fighters.
Have a good week and to paraphrase Bob Barker, please be sure to have your Cheetahs spayed or neutered.
