Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?
This week, we get a Tonight Show debut, Ellen is in a different day part and Adam McKay goes into the storm.
It’s another week packed with great comedy guests across the spectrum of late night television shows. And there’s no better way to start off the week than with a comedian making their debut on the legendary Tonight Show stage.
Emmy Blotnick is no stranger to late night. She’s performed on Conan and the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where she did more than a stand up appearance. She was also a writer for Colbert and the Late Show. She’s also had her own Half Hour special on Comedy Central and her comedy album “Emmy Blotnick: Party Nights” is available on any platform where you get your music. Emmy checks off one more box on her comedy to-do list on Monday when she appears on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.
Also on Monday, it would be a crime against comedy not to mention that the always hilarious Ron Funches will be appearing on the Late Late Show with James Corden. Ron has a new cooking series debuting on Discovery+ this week. It’s called “Chopped 420” and it features chefs who cook recipes with cannabis as an ingredient. “Chopped 420 with Ron Funches” premieres (you guessed it) on Tuesday, 4/20 on Discovery+.
On Tuesday night, Ellen DeGeneres takes a moment from her daytime show to appear in late night on Jimmy Kimmel Live. We can’t say for sure if this has anything to do with it, but the “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” show has lost over 1 million viewers since she kicked off the series’ latest season with an apology for the show’s toxic workplace. A fun, look-she’s-still-nice appearance in late night with Jimmy Kimmel might kickstart those ratings again.
Also on Tuesday, we recommend setting your DVRs to record Robin Thede appearing on the Tonight Show to promote the new season of “A Black Lady Sketch Show” finally coming to HBO after it was severely delayed by the pandemic shutdown. And make sure you catch Dulcé Sloan on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Tuesday. She’ll be Seth’s guest on Tuesday and you can hear her as the voice of Honeybee Shaw on the new animated series “The Great North” available on FoxNow.
Thursday evening, Adam McKay will step in front of the camera for a change for an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Adam is one-half of the producing giant, Gary Sanchez Productions with Will Ferrell, but he won’t just be talking comedy with Seth. Adam McKay is also one of the executive producers on the HBOMax documentary series, “Q: Into the Storm.”
The 6-part doc focuses on finding the origins of the QAnon conspiracy theory which led to the attack on our Capitol spurred on by Donald Trump. The series hopes to unravel who this mysterious Q is who started this by falsely claiming there was a top secret cabal of cannibals in high positions who run a sex-trafficking and baby-eating ring. Not a lot of laughs from this Adam McKay project.
Finally, Saturday Night Live is still in reruns this coming weekend, but there’s a repeat scheduled for Saturday that a lot of people won’t mind seeing again. Regé-Jean Page hosts a repeat SNL from back in February. The sex symbol who seems to have come out of nowhere stars in the steamy period piece from Netflix called “Bridgerton.” You’ll want to record this episode of SNL. That way you can hit pause a lot more.
Enjoy staying up late this week to catch all the great comedy in late night. After all, sleep is not only over-rated, it’s for the weak.
