Who is Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: May 20, 2017

Tonight, Saturday Night Live is in fact live, coast to coast. It’s the Season 43 finale, and it’s going to be a big big night. Dwayne Johnson, who you know as The Rock is hosting the show tonight, and this is the second week in a row that the show’s host is joining the Five Timers Club.

Johnson first hosted the show in March 2000, returning again in 2002, 2009, and 2015 to helm the show. Tonight, he returns for the fifth time hosting, sixth time appearing- he made a cameo in 2009. Johnson first became known as a professional wrestler and later for blockbuster action films, but in recent years he’s had success pursuing comedy. Co-starring with Kevin Hart in Central Intelligence and being cast in a starring role in his HBO series Ballers has established him as a serious draw in comedy movies and television.

Tonight also will be the very last performance for an SNL giant– Bobby Moynihan will end his nine year run as a series regular on the show. It’s always sad to see a favorite cast member go, especially one as beloved as Bobby is, but you’ll be seeing him around- he’s starring in a new CBS sitcom, “Me, Myself and I“, and his voice is showing up in movies, and on TV series, and of course this opens the door for Moynihan to host the show in the future. No last promo for Moynihan this week, but he shared a “last pitch” photo on Instagram earlier this week.

We don’t know who else might be making their last appearance on SNL‘s famed stage tonight- Moynihan has been the first departure to be announced, but sometimes decisions are made during the summer hiatus, which means no opportunity for that last wave goodbye during the closing credits.

This week, the promos are as gigantic as the show. Click below to watch The Rock carry the entire cast on his back. Good luck finding another host who can pull that one off. In a more traditional promo, there’s not cast member hanging around, it’s just Johnson and musical guest Katy Perry. Johnson takes the opportunity to go corny. Real corny.
