Who is Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: April 10, 2021

Tonight is a new promising episode of Saturday Night Live hosted by the Oscar nominated star of “Promising Young Woman”, Carey Mulligan!

The host of tonight’s brand new SNL hopes that her appearance will bring her a little bit of Oscar luck. Okay, maybe not luck, but Carey Mulligan does have the opportunity as an SNL host during awards season, for one last chance to endear herself to the Academy because the final Oscar voting ends on April 20th just before the 93rd annual Academy Awards ceremony airs live on Sunday, April 25th.

As a first-time Saturday Night Live host, many SNL fans might be getting their first look at Carey Mulligan tonight. Of course, she’s done so much already in her career, SNL fans may know Carey from some place else.

This year, she’s best known for her role as Cassandra Thomas in the film categorized as a dark comedy thriller, “Promising Young Woman“, which has earned Carey her second Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations. In the movie which is light on the comedy and heavy on the thriller, Carey plays a woman who is out to avenge her best friend who was driven to suicide after being raped. Not only is “Cassie” Thomas out to get her friend’s attacker, but also some stray date rapists along the way as well.

Carey Mulligan will be promoting “Promising Young Woman” tonight when she hosts SNL for the first time. It’s available now On Demand and it co-stars Bo Burnham, Alison Brie, Jennifer Coolidge, Laverne Cox and the guy who played McLovin’ in “Superbad.”

Award show fans will more than likely know Carey Mulligan from the many nominated and award-winning parts she’s played in the movies. In 2009, Carey Mulligan earned her first Oscar nomination for Best Actress for “An Education.” Carey took home the BAFTA Award for that film as well as her first Golden Globe.

Movie fans might also know Carey Mulligan from her appearances in films like “Pride & Prejudice” (2005), “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” (2010), “The Great Gatsby” (2013) and Coen Brothers film, “Inside Llewyn Davis” (2013). Whereas Broadway fans will know Carey for her Tony Award nominated performance in the revival production of David Hare’s “Skylight.”

And if all that fails, English folk-rock music fans will know Carey Mulligan for being Mrs. Mumford. Tonight’s SNL host is married to Marcus Mumford, the lead singer of Mumford & Sons. Boy, you’d think an Oscar nominated host could get her husband’s band booked as the musical guest on her first SNL. Oh well.

Usually Saturday Night Live can be counted on to work the major headlines of the week into that Saturday’s show somehow. Either in a sketch, an SNL Short, the SNL Cold Open or on Weekend Update. It will be a little difficult for the writers to do that with tonight’s show considering the lead stories this week were two famous deaths.

First, Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh and the Consort of the British monarch aka Queen Elizabeth II’s husband died at age 99 which is rather young for British royalty. Then, hip-hop icon and actor DMX passed away at age 50, which is kind of old for a rapper. More than likely, Saturday Night Live will give a shout-out of respect to DMX at some point this evening. The “Party Up” singer performed on SNL as the musical guest back in 2000 during SNL – Season 25 when Julianna Margulies (“ER“) hosted the show.

Other news that could find its way onto the show tonight include more accusations of misconduct being leveled against New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. And speaking of Governors named Andrew, Rudy Giuliani’s hyperactive son Andrew Giuliani, is joining the race to be the next governor of the Empire State. Social media was flooded with videos of former SNL cast member Chris Farley playing the heavy-set elementary school age Andrew Giuliani on Saturday Night Live back in 1994 when Rudy was first sworn in as Mayor of NYC.

News stories that might also be inspiring the SNL writers’ room this week include the release of First Son Hunter Biden’s new memoir, “Beautiful Things“, Walt Disney World allowing guests to remove their face-masks for photos, along with Disney going forward with a 5th “Indiana Jones” movie starring 78 year old Harrison Ford, a lost 3000 year old Golden City being discovered in Egypt, the revelation that Robert De Niro was originally cast to star in “Big” instead of Tom Hanks, and Britney Spears bringing back her early 2000’s catsuit look for an Instagram photo shoot. Maybe this will inspire SNL featured player Chloe Fineman to do her amazing Britney impression on tonight’s show.

Just below, we have the promos that Carey Mulligan did to promote tonight’s brand new Saturday Night Live. Our host is joined by musical guest Kid Cudi and veteran cast member Kenan Thompson who gives Carey a new nickname. We won’t spoil it, but also Little Baby Angel Carey (damn!) gives us one of the most dramatic promos in SNL history.

Oscar nominated actor and star of “Promising Young Woman” Carey Mulligan hosts an all-new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight with musical guest Kid Cudi. The brand new SNL fun all starts at 11:30pm et and it will be live across all American time zones on NBC.
