Deadline is reporting that Upright Citizens Brigade founders Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh have penned a deal with Universal Cable Productions, the cable entertainment branch of NBCUniversal. The deal dictates that the various members of UCB will help NBCUniversal produce a series of shows for their cable networks and streaming services alike.
There are currently five projects underway: Hell House, We Can Fix You, Sing, The Peligroso Project, and House of Delta. UCB already has a series airing on Seeso, the digital arm of NBCUniversal.
We Can Fix You: Based of UCB’s successful stage show, this series will feature Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, and a cast of UCB comedians as play therapist to a studio audience, listening to the audience’s problem and then providing (massively underqualified) advice. The show, being a flagship of UCB, will be executive produced by Poehler, Besser, Roberts, Walsh, Owen Burke and Aliyah Silverstein.
Hell House: The clueless members of a church planning committee attempt to set up a sin-themed haunted house. Noam Bleiweiss, Betsy Sodaro, and Adam McCabe will write and executive produce.
The Peligroso Project: This show will be a showcase of Latino comics and writers, featuring man-on-the-street bits and sketch comedy performed for a live audience and hosted by SNL’s Horatio Sanz and Mr. Show with Bob and David’s Tom Gianas.
Sing: Writers/executive producers Jeff Hiller and Pam Murphy present Sing, a show that parodies other music-centric shows like Nashville and Empire and follows the story of a group of friends struggling to make it in the cutthroat world of karaoke.
House of Delta: This political thriller, seemingly poking fun at Netflix’s House of Cards, shows the high-stakes inner workings of the Delta Omega Sorority at Southeast Georgia State University. Written and executive produced by Laura Grey and Megan Stein.
