Armisen Delivers Strong Season Finale for SNL With Special Guests

It was a rough two weeks for SNL but last night's episode with Fred Armisen as host closed season 41 on a high note. Armisen delivered a bizarre but hilarious extended opening monologue, where Armisen shared an excerpt from his fictional one man show about how SNL changed his life. Armisen explained that he owes everything to he place where he got his start, and said that's why he created a one man show, "Love From New York I Did Saturdays Right." He shared excerpts, which included re-enacting getting the call to audition for SNL, and his experience trying out for the role of a lifetime, and impressions of a buddy from home who might have been Barney Rubble.

Drake Episode Falls Flat on SNL, Jay Pharoah Provides Episode Highlight

Anticipation was high for Drake's return to Saturday Night Live. After all, he's a superstar. But the episode fell flat, making it the second week in a row that we struggled to find a favorite clip of the night to share. There was a somewhat self deprecating monologue that had Drake pleading with his audience to see him as more than a meme, a self deprecating digital short where Drake wondered why the cast doesn't respect him, and imagines rap responses to the haters, and plenty of Drake sketches.

Time to Embrace Comedy at Tribeca: A Look at the Comedies of the Tribeca Film Festival 2016

Tribeca has had a history of including a variety of comedy films since their inception, when the first Best Narrative award went to the comedy Roger Dodger. The slate has always found a surprisingly strong number of comedies to play alongside the more serious indie dramas. Their midnight movie selections (normally host to shock drama) have also been open to comedies, such as the sports parody Balls Out and especially comedy-horror films such as Fresh Meat and Zombeavers. Along with their usual slate of low-key indie comedies, the festival has played host to special events honoring classic comedies. Just last year the festival hosted the Monty Python reunion with screenings of their classic films (and premiere of their documentary). And even offered public screenings of silent films, such as last year’s screening of Harold Lloyd’s Speedy with live music.

Jeffrey Gurian’s Favorite Comedy Things! A 2015 Year in Review

It’s almost impossible to try and list my top comedy moments from 2015, because there were just so many. Trying to only choose 15 was a monumental task. Last year I did more of a review than a “Top 15” list, but this year I decided to try and list the 15 events that meant the most to me. Some of them I was involved in personally, others not, ... but all of them were events I attended to cover for my column in The Interrobang. It’s important to emphasize that they are NOT in order. Every one of them could theoretically be #1.

Ten Things I Learned on the Red Carpet for “Staten Island Summer”

Last night I got to go to my first red carpet event as a correspondent for The IBang, and it was a great time. The movie, Staten Island Summer is really funny, and it's the kind of movie you need to have at least one of every summer. The entire movie takes place in Staten Island, most of it at a pool club and it's one of those great summer party movies in the tradition of Caddyshack and Wet Hot American Summer.
