Morning talk shows are one of the worst parts of being a stand up comedian. The conditions are not ideal for comedy: harsh lighting, 9am call times, and everyone’s sober. The hosts rarely know what the hell they’ve gotten themselves into. But you gotta sell those tickets, comics are forced to do press at local TV stations whenever they are on the road. Some comics just grind their way through, answering dumb questions and trying to be as cheerful as the time will allow. Others take a different approach.
These are 7 of the best morning talk show appearances where the comedians truly do not give a f*ck.
In 2016, Hannibal Buress was on Australian morning show The Project. Instead of promoting his shows in Melbourne, he read an entire kids book live on the air. He found My First Numbers on the street, brought it in studio, and did not let the hosts chime in while he read every last page. They really wanted to join — but Hannibal had numbers to count.
BILL BURR GOES UNRATED ON TEXAS SHOW
Bill Burr was true to himself in 2014 when he scared the host of Good Morning Texas. Almost immediately he goes blue, and she is not prepared. Don’t worry though, the game “Guess The Cereal Mascot” is perfectly in tone with his sense of humor.
Comedian Tom Segura goes all out in his morning show appearances. Instead of promoting himself, he promotes his alternate identity: DJ Dad Mouth. In 2016, DJ Dad Mouth had the pleasure of doing the weather on CWI Live in Iowa. Also, he always has duct tape…it’s hard to explain.
Mark Normand’s appearance on New Day Cleveland is the most exciting event of 2019 for Cleveland. Luckily, the host plays along with Mark as he quickly interjects hilariously uncomfortable jokes into the early morning broadcast.
Bobby Lee turns up the heat in all of his morning show appearances by overtly flirting and getting real physical. His 2014 appearance on the Chicago show You and Me This Morning is no exception (he kisses the host’s palm right away). Bobby might need to retire this bit in 2019…
Earlier this year, Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish visited Sunrise in Australia to promote The Secret Life of Pets 2. Kevin has a signature overreaction towards the end, but this time it’s pretty justified. A dog is brought on set and it’s at least double his size (but so is everyone else?). Kevin becomes so afraid that he barks…for a while.
Morning show legends Joe Picket and Nick Prueher booked themselves as atrongman duo Chop and Steele on tons of morning shows – and then they got sued. Exposing the lack of fact checking at these stations, Chop and Steele demonstrate insane workout tactics which include but are not limited to crushing baskets, chopping sticks, and throwing twigs at each other’s backs.
They were sued:
But they won!
