RuPaul and J.J. Abrams Teaming Up for 1970’s Dramedy

TV is about to get a lot more fabulous: Deadline is reporting that RuPaul, famous drag queen and host of the hugely popular RuPaul’s Drag Race, has teamed up with J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot to create a fictionalized dramedy retelling of RuPaul’s life. The show will plot the course of his rise from New York City club kid to international television star and LGBTQ hero, picking up in 1980’s NYC. The show is also being produced by World of Wonder, the company behind RuPaul’s Drag Race.

RuPaul has done it all. He was, and still is, a fixture in night clubs around the country. He’s a musician who’s released 11 albums to date, he’s acted in two dozen films and shorts, he’s hosted multiple TV shows, and he even has his own podcast. With this new show, we’re likely to see an entirely new side of this multi-faceted entertainer. Now “Sashay Away!”
