Roy Wood Jr.’s First Hour Special Coming to Comedy Central

Exciting news on the stand-up front: The Daily Show’s Roy Wood Jr. has his first ever one-hour special, called Roy Wood Jr.: Father Figure, coming out via Comedy Central on Sunday, February 19th at 11 p.m.

Wood Jr., who’s appeared on shows like @midnight and Night Train and who’s also had a recurring role on TBS’ Sullivan & Son, is perhaps best known for his turn as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, a post he’s held since 2015. It’s that penchant for political and social commentary that fuels his new special, aptly titled Father Figure now that he’s recently become a father. The special features Wood Jr. trying to come to grips with how to raise his son amidst a culture seemingly defined by turmoil, Confederate flags and $12 smoothies.

Comedy Central plans to put out some digital content from Wood Jr. in the lead up to the special’s release, including an original parody song by the comic about smoothies. That, along with preview clips from the special, will be available both on the Comedy Central app/website as well as their social media pages, so be on the lookout for that. Wood Jr. has an original, relatable voice, and his new special is sure to be a welcome respite from the onslaught of negativity in the world as of late.
