Back in June, the greatest court transcript to ever grace the Earth was released to the public. The transcript documented the case of The State of Georgia vs. Denver Fenton Allen, one that may have set the record for most contempt charges in any one hearing. Things get crazy from the jump, when Allen requests a new public defender because his current attorney told him that “if I wanted him to do a good job, I had to let him give me oral sex.” This is page two of a 19-page transcript and the defendant has already accused his attorney of coming onto him, so you know this is bound to get weirder.
The transcript on its own is gold, but unfortunately there are no visuals to go along with the back-and-forth exchange. Or, rather, there were no visuals, that is, until Adult Swim came along. During a panel at last week’s Comic Con in San Diego, the comedy network unleashed a thing of beauty upon the world; a Rick and Morty animation to go along with the transcript. In the video, Rick Sanchez plays defendant Denver Allen while Morty takes up the role of Judge Bryant Durham. The two, both voiced by Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland, read the vast majority of the transcript word-for-word, every insane moment of it.
Without spoiling too much, here’s a little taste of the chaos that broke out in the courtroom shortly after Allen first took to the podium:
The original video of the animation that came out was fan-recorded from the Comic Con panel, so the quality was lacking. Luckily for us, Adult Swim has just released the animation in full, sans crowd laughter and the backs of people’s heads. The video comes in at 9:29, and every second of it is worth watching.
