Who doesn’t love a good coming of age tale? GKIDS, the distribution company that’s been behind a string of Oscar-nominated animated films in recent years like My Life as a Zucchini and The Tale of Princess Kaguya, has just announced that they will be releasing a new animated comedy called My Entire High School Sinking Into the Sea to select theaters on April 14th.
The film is the most recent release from acclaimed cartoonist Dash Shaw (New School, Cosplayers) that promises to deliver on all fronts: high school drama and hijinks, earthly disasters and high-reaching conspiracies, and unique animation styles and effects that would make an art school professor proud. My Entire High School Sinking Into the Sea tells the story of a couple of high school students/journalists named Dash (Jason Schwartzman) and Assaf (Reggie Watts) who discover a conspiracy among their school’s faculty, and before they know it, they find themselves desperately trying to escape from the school before it is swallowed by the Earth itself. They must ascend through the various floors of the school to reach salvation on the roof, encountering increasingly dangerous situations and, no doubt, a handful of life lessons along the way. Also providing their voices to the film are Maya Rudolph, Susan Sarandon and Lena Dunham and more.
