Pete Davidson Hurts NY Post Writer’s Feelings, Writer Fires Back

During a recent interview with Uproxx, SNL’s Pete Davidson went in on his home borough of Staten Island. “It’s a terrible borough filled with terrible people,” he told Uproxx’s Vince Mancini. “A fucking tidal wave could take out Staten Island and I wouldn’t even move in my sleep. In fact, I would sleep better.” Strong words, ones that particularly affected NY Post writer Dean Balsamini. You see, Dean is a guy who takes being from Staten Island very seriously, and who couldn’t let Davidson’s slight against his home borough go unanswered.

Balsamini’s solution? Write the editorial equivalent of a heartbroken teenager’s Facebook post, one in which he insults Davidson’s looks and talent and brings up the honor of Davidson’s dead father, for some reason. He taunts Pete’s impressions– “Maybe you’re bitter because Kate McKinnon’s Hillary Clinton and Alec Baldwin’s spot-on Donald Trump blew away your listless impersonation of Marco Rubio?”– and tells Davidson to “shut [his] effin’ piehole.”

He then goes on to name all of the various people who were born in or influenced by Staten Island, from Ralph Waldo Emerson to Christina Aguilera.

Balsamini suggests that Davidson follow the lead of fellow SNL cast member and Staten Islander Colin Jost, who mocked the borough in a more lighthearted way in his film Staten Island Summer. “He’s also way better-looking than you,” jabs the man who looks like he just finished washing his mother’s underwear in a delicate spin cycle, just the way she likes it.

If there’s anything to be learned from this article, it’s that you shouldn’t make fun of people’s hometowns it’s that linking your pride with a random geographic location just because you were born there, is never a good look.
