Patton Oswalt to Replace Bobby Moynihan in New Show

Patton Oswalt Will Be the Voice of Happy

Here’s a sentence I didn’t think I’d be writing today: Patton Oswalt (Mystery Science Theater 3000) will be replacing former Saturday Night Live star Bobby Moynihan as the voice of an imaginary, winged, blue horse named Happy. At a panel for the new Syfy show Happy! during San Diego’s Comic Con on Saturday, the team behind the bizarre project shared that Moynihan, who had voiced the titular character for the show’s pilot, would be replaced by Oswalt. No reason for the change was given, though it’s safe to assume that Moynihan simply couldn’t fit the show into his schedule alongside CBS’ Me, Myself & I and Disney’s Descendants 2.

Happy! tells the story of Nick Sax (Chris Meloni of Law & Order: SVU), a corrupt former cop who now lives as a killer-for-hire. Sax’s murder and treachery-addled life takes an interesting turn when, after a job gone wrong, he encounters an obnoxiously cheery, winged, blue horse (Pegasus!?) named Happy. The unlikely duo develop a strange report and set out on a mission to save a little girl named Hailey, who has been kidnapped.

The show is based on a graphic novel series of the same name, written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Darick Robertson. Morrison, along with Meloni, are both executive producers on the project, so it looks like this one will stick close to its generally well-received source material.
