Pamela Adlon Talks About Her Indecent Proposal From Redd Foxx on Kimmel Live

Pamela Adlon has a new series premiering tonight on FX. She stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about her new show and discussed some of her early television work from the 80s with the late comedy legend Redd Foxx. Pamela was promoting her brand new FX semi-autobiographical comedy series, “Better Things”. In the series in which art imitates her real life, Pamela Adlon plays Sam Fox, a struggling actor who’s also struggling to raise her three daughters on her own.
She co-created “Better Things” with Louis C.K. Pamela said that she and Louis are each other’s “creative muses”. Their previous work together is well known with Louis’ FX series, “Louie” and his HBO show, “Lucky Louie”. Pamela Adlon’s other popular television work includes doing voices for “King of the Hill”, “Rugrats” and “Beavis and Butt-Head”.
Jimmy Kimmel brought up a lesser known part of her TV resume which was an ABC mid-season replacement flop, “The Redd Foxx Show”. It starred the comedic icon from “Sanford & Son” fame. As the conservation with Jimmy Kimmel continued, the audience found out that Pamela Adlon auditioned for the part of “Tony” on “The Redd Foxx Show” in boy drag under the name Paul Segall. She landed the role and producers changed the pilot script to make the street tough kid that Redd Foxx’s character adopts on the series, to a girl named “Toni”. You won’t believe that Pamela Adlon could pull off a young boy look at age 19 until you see the cast photo that Jimmy Kimmel brings out from 1986.
Pamela finished up her Kimmel interview by divulging that Redd Foxx had offered her a proposition that involved a large sum of cash and her teeth. It was a career secret that didn’t look like Pamela Adlon had meant to share on national late night television. Watch the clip below to not only hear the creepy deal Redd Foxx offered his young co-star, but also to find out which big name 80s comedian ended up replacing her on the show. It’s someone Pamela found hard to believe that she would be interchangeable with.
“Better Things” the new series starring Pamela Adlon and co-created by Louis C.K. premieres tonight at 10pm on FX.
