Mark and Jay Duplass who are the co-creators of “Togetherness” on HBO have signed a four movie deal with Netflix which includes theater releases for the four films.  Here’s how it works- Netflix will finance the films they get theatrical release and then each one will be available at a later date for subscribers.

This is the latest multi-picture agreement the streaming service has locked down in its bid to secure comedy talent for the long term. Netflix also has a 4 movie deal with Adam Sandler. The difference with Sandler is that he will create and star in movies debuting exclusively to Netflix.

There’s no timeline set yet for production on the new Duplass projects. Netflix chief Ted Sarandos said, “This is just the latest step in our very long relationship with the Duplass Brothers. We’ve been working with them almost since the very beginning, when we were red-envelope delivery. Independent film has always been a big part of Netflix, and the reason we do things like the Adam Sandler deal is so we can do things like this as well.”
