Michael Ian Black Wrote a Trump Book for Kids

Yes, you read that headline correctly: comedian Michael Ian Black announced on Twitter this week that he has penned a children’s book called A Child’s First Book of Trump. The book, which will be available in July, is a light-hearted, playful look at the controversial presidential candidate and his not-so-lighthearted campaign. While the book is written and stylized as being a book for kids, it is obviously intended to provide some laughs (followed by some terrifying introspection) for adults.

Black is known for his bitingly sarcastic humor, and has written best-selling children’s books in the past, so he’s likely to knock this one out of the park. If this excerpt is any indication, the book will likely be a perfect homage to the man who, for all intents and purposes, is a caricature of himself:

The beasty is called an American Trump.
Its skin is bright orange, its figure is plump.
Its fur so complex you might get enveloped.
Its hands though are, sadly, underdeveloped.

The Trump is a curious creature, very often spotted in the wild, but confounding to our youngest citizens. A business mogul, reality TV host, and now…political candidate? Kids (and let’s be honest many adults) might have difficulty discerning just what this thing that’s been dominating news coverage this election cycle is. Could he actually be real? Are those…words coming out of his mouth? Why are his hands so tiny? And perhaps most importantly, what on earth do you do when you encounter an American Trump?

You don’t have to wait for your book to arrive to enjoy Black’s musings on Trump.  His twitter account is full of em.

Michael Ian Black is best known for co-creating the sketch comedy groups Stella and The State, but he’s also a prolific author, with several books to his credit for adults, like his most recent book Navel Gazing: True Tales of Bodies, Mostly Mine (but also my moms which I know sounds weird) which has received rave from critics. He’s also been entertaining children with titles like Cock-a-Doodle-Doo-Bop!, Chicken Cheeks, and I’m Bored.
