Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone Announce Christmas Musical Project

For the past few years, actress Melissa McCarthy has gradually been adding “producer” credits to her resume. The prolific actress has starred in various hit TV shows and films over the years, but has, more and more, been joining husband/producer Ben Falcone behind the camera. They recently co-produced the TV Land show Nobodies, as well as the TV movie Amy’s Brother, while they’ve previously worked on films like The Boss and Tammy together. Now, the duo have announced that they have another project up their sleeve: a Christmas musical called Margie Claus.

The film will tell the story of a fateful Christmas Eve where Santa Claus goes missing while delivering presents. The world must rely on Saint Nick’s homely wife, Margie (McCarthy), to assemble a team and leave the North Pole for the first time in decades in order to save her husband. Falcone and Benched writer Damon Jones will write the script, with McCarthy and Falcone producing. Falcone will direct the film, which will be McCarthy’s first foray into musicals.

The movie is shaping up to be a family-friendly Christmas musical with broad appeal, with New Line hoping to capture some of the same magic as their other well-known Christmas hit, Elf starring Will Ferrell. McCarthy and Falcone have found success working together before, so only time will tell if they will continue that trend.
