Maria Bamford Netflix Comedy Series Announced

Maria Bamford is a stand up sensation, the star of a hit webseries, now she’ll have her own Netflix series. Netflix is bringing a brand new series starring and produced by Bamford to their platform, and we couldn’t be more excited.

The series, like her stand up, is inspired by her life and experiences, and if it’s anything like her stand up it will be must see television. Lady Dynamite will be a single-camera half-hour comedy, and is being described as “the story of a woman who loses – and then finds – her shit.” Expect some surreal episodes as part of the series which will refract across multiple periods.

If that isn’t exciting enough, Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz is on board, and will executive produce with Bamford. He’s also written the Pilot along with Pam Brady who will serve as Show Runner.

Netflix ordered 13 episodes of the series, and is the most recent show of Netflix’s outstanding use of comedy and and stand up comedians through programming. Netflix has a long list of outstanding original comedy programming including Orange Is the New Black, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Grace and Frankie, BoJack Horseman and Arrested Development’s most recent fourth season. Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp debuts in July, there are more series in the works  including Judd Apatow’s Love, David Cross and Bob Odenkirks With Bob and David, and an untitled Aziz Ansari Show.

Bamford created and stars in the cult web series The Maria Bamford Show and Maria Bamford: the special special special, which is available on Netflix, and is one of the stars of Netflix’s BoJack Horseman.
