Louis C.K. Really Hates Ticket Scalpers

Louis_C_K_Hosting Saturday Night Live Season Finale

For the better part of 2016, Louis C.K. has been relentlessly touring across the U.S., one part passion project and one part  fundraiser. And, like most things C.K. does, he’s doing it his own way.

Since the extensive tour began, C.K. has made it clear through his newsletter that he wants his shows to be affordable and accessible for all of his fans, not just the ones who are able to swing the often-exorbitant ticket prices and additional charges that accompany websites like StubHub or VividSeats. To make that happen, C.K. decided to sell the tickets to each of his shows exclusively through his website. C.K. and his manager painstakingly negotiated with each venue on his tour to work out how to make the tickets affordable, which included agreeing that he and the venue would eat the ticket charges in order to keep the tickets at a flat rate. That means that, regardless of city or venue, fans can get front row tickets for one of C.K.’s shows for only $50 (assuming they’re not sold out). That’s a crazy good deal to see arguably one of the greatest stand-up comics to ever take the stage.

If there’s one thing that C.K. hates more than overpriced tickets, it’s scalpers. In an attempt to impede the scammers who are looking to take advantage of the cheap ticket prices to turn a profit, C.K. and his team are taking extensive measures to prevent ticket resale on broker sites. When checking out the  tour dates on his site, C.K. offers this warning to all buyers:

“Regarding ticket resale: we take great efforts and have many methods of finding out what inventory is being sold on “broker” sites like Stubhub and Vivid Seats and immediately invalidating those tickets. Due to this we recommend that anyone who chooses to purchase these seats does so at their own risk. If the ticket becomes invalidated, we are not responsible, and unfortunately the consumer could lose money and not get into the show. We cannot tell anyone specifically which seats will be invalidated but we can tell you that there is a legitimate chance that any and all of them can be.”

The threat of having a ticket invalidated is a scary one; What would be worse than getting yourself all pumped up to see Louis C.K. live, only to have your ticket denied at the door? It’s a bold strategy, and one that sends a clear message to C.K.’s fans (and to those who are simply looking to make a profit at a real fan’s expense).

C.K. is making every effort to keep his tickets cheap while also preventing re-sale tickets from being allowed into his shows. As such, the key to making sure that A) you’re able to get into the venue when showtime comes and B) that C.K. is able to continue keeping his prices low, is to take the proper channels and get your tickets through his website. Simple enough, right?

Now let’s all play nice, follow the rules, and make sure that this awesome comic can keep up this type of fan service. Don’t ruin it for the rest of us!

You can check out all of C.K.’s dates, which currently extend through the end of January, over  at his website.
