This week, Deadline hosted their AwardsLine Emmy event, where they screen some of the season’s most talked-about films and television shows. During a screening of Horace and Pete, series creator Louis C.K. revealed that the series that he co-created with Louie co-star Pamela Adlon, Better Things, will make its FX debut on September 8th.

C.K. thinks that the series can bring something to the table that currently isn’t on television right now. The show takes a semi-autobiographical approach to Adlon’s life, following the day-to-day moments of a single mom who struggles to raise three kids while putting much of her energy into trying to become a successful actress. “That woman doesn’t exist on TV that I’ve seen,” said C.K.

While the pair wrote the pilot together, and C.K. himself directed, the comic was quick to heap praise on Adlon, a talented actress and writer that he’s worked with not only on FX’s Louie, but also on the short-lived HBO sitcom Lucky Louie. “Pamela really shaped the show and directed the best episodes,” he said.

The show has a solid production backbone behind it. Adlon and C.K. are joined in their executive producing roles by Dave Becky (Louie, Everybody Hates Chris,) M. Blair Breard (Louie, Wanted) and 3 Arts Entertainment (Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine.) C.K.’s writing and directing chops are enough on their own, but Adlon brings a slew of credentials to the table as well: She’s received four Emmy nominations for her various roles on Louie, from acting to writing and producing, and also won an Emmy for the voice acting she provided on the hit animated series King of the Hill.

As evidenced by their work on Louie, these two are a hell of a writing team, and Adlon is a great actress, so this show has a lot of potential. Better Things will premiere September 8th on FX.
