Lewis Black Says Trump Hasn’t Made Being a Comedian Any Easier

Lewis Black was a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers and crazy as it sounds, the conversation turned to politics, the Presidential election and Donald Trump. Seth asked Lewis if Trump’s candidacy was indeed good for business and made his life easier as a comedian. Lewis Black’s answer was “no”. He had a simple explanation for why not? Lewis said, “How do you make funny something that’s already funny? How do you make it funnier?” His theory is that Donald Trump is already such a laughable candidate and his gaffe filled campaign is such a joke that they’ve become impossible to top.

The comedian who was on Late Night to promote his Broadway show, “Black to the Future”, told Seth Meyers that his father may have predicted this years ago when he first visited him in New York City from their home in Maryland. Lewis said his dad really wanted to see Trump Tower on his visit, since at the time, it had just opened. After seeing the iconic building, Lewis Black’s father commented that this could signal the end of civilization. We’ll just have to wait until November to see if Lewis Black’s father was right.

Media coverage of the election is also keeping Lewis Black in his trademark state of crazed anger. He starts his day with cable news and he loses his mind from there. It’s not so much the actual news that makes him boil, it’s the news commentators. He also finished his Late Night interview with a message for Trump’s supporters and surrogates about what will happen to them if they vote for Donald. And Lewis Black’s message, is every bit as pleasant as you would expect it to be.
