Legendary Austin Comedy Club Reopens in New Location After Closing During Pandemic
Austin’s famous Cap City Comedy Club is to once again open for live performances at their brand new location at The Domain.
Cap City has been a beloved part of the Austin comedy scene since 1986 and has had a major hand in the growth of the Austin comedy scene ever since, and when the iconic club announced they would close their doors during the pandemic, the entire industry felt the loss. So we’re all thrilled to see the club back in operation.
With a brand new location the club is now part of the national Helium Comedy umbrella of comedy clubs, and along with some of the existing team from the original club, Cap City will undoubtably continue to deliver the best national headlining acts while still supporting and elevating local talent.
Patrons can look forward to a newly renovated location with a multi-tiered showroom including a balcony, two lounge areas, and a secondary showroom (the Red Room) that is designated for local and up-and-coming talent.
Cap City will be kicking off their reopening with an exciting comedy lineup including Dave Attell, Kyle Kinane, Ms. Pat, Michael Ian Black and Craig Robinson, and other established and up-and-coming comedians like Matteo Lane, Daniel Simonson, Alingon Mitra, Vanessa Gonzalez, Chris Tellez, and Mac Blake. Additionally, Cap City has begun their “2022 Funniest Person in Austin” competition, with preliminary rounds going through the beginning of September. Audience members will be able to vote on who will advance in the competition.
Marc Grossman, owner of Cap City spoke more on this, saying, “We couldn’t be more excited to reopen our doors. It has been a very difficult process, from closing in March of 2020 due to the pandemic and then having to move, construct, and restaff the club. However, our best employees are rejoining us and we’re all eager to welcome the community back to Cap City. Now perfectly located in The Domain, we will have plenty of parking and other amenities for customers!”
Cap City brings comedy fans together for stadium-sized talent in an intimate theater setting on a weekly basis. For a modest ticket price, patrons can enjoy live stand-up comedy and other performance art from nationally accredited acts, as well as a wide selection of food and beverage, in a cozy atmosphere. Cap City is proud to feature both big name performers and up-and-coming local comedians in the desire to engage with and build up the Austin community as well as their new talents.
